College football game of the week
The Stankoniforous Files —
AP Photo/Jay LaPrete > > Stank-0 is quite certain you have all heard about the Ohio State playin SoCal in SoCal. What more can Stank-0 add to this? ESPN has been trippin all over themselves hypin this game up, despite the fact that the Ohio State squeaked by a weaker team ...
It Was a Big Game, So Tressel and Ohio State Didn’t Show Up, Natch
The Big Lead —
Didn’t see the game (wedding!), so there’s no point in waxing philosophic on Pryor or Boeckman, or how much of a machine USC may or may not be.
Hell, we didn’t even need the highlights after reading this gem from an OSU lineman: “I can’t believe we screwed up so badly. I feel like this is the national championship all over again, stupid penalties, stupid mistakes, roughing the passer, holding, offsides, personal fouls.“
If you want to talk overrated college football coaches, Jim Tressel has got to be in the conversation. When was the last time Ohio State showed up for a ...
Florida celebration backfiring on Georgia by sparking one of the most successful runs in school history
Dr. Saturday —
Earlier this week, it was Tony Barnhardt. Today, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution runs with another "All these penalties are killing Georgia and whatever happened to discipline, durn it?" piece from its other longtime scribbler, Terence Moore: Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but probably not. Ever since Georgia’s silliness in the end zone last season against Florida, the Bulldogs have gone from ranking as one of the most disciplined teams in the country to whatever they are now. Whatever they are now isn’t pretty, by the way. They are the only Division I-A football team in double digits ...
Who Would Ever Think That You Would Spread Like Mustard?
Major League Jerk —
Quick hitters from a college football Saturday.
- The Longhorns rebounded well from their heartbreaking loss to Texas Tech. Like I said last week, all they can do is take care of business. I think if both them and Tech win out, the Horns will probably go to the Fiesta Bowl, and Hef already told me I could crash at his place. WinnAr? ...
The Referees Just Cannot Help Themselves When Ohio State and Miami Get Together
Amphibious Sports Duo —
I guess it should come as a surprise to no one, but yet again the refs got involved in a game between the Buckeyes and the Hurricanes. This time there was no national title on the line and the whole country was not watching. The impact of the call however was significant. With over ten minutes remaining in the first half, Jack McClinton held the ball on the wing in front of the Ohio State bench. OSU guard Anthony Crater swiped at the ball and hit McClinton in the face. In the heat of the moment Jack gave the ball back up top and returned the favor by tapping Crater in the face. The refs did not see it and play resumed until Crater went down ...
My favorite 10 college football players
Same Page Sports —
So, I was lying in bed the other night and had one of those “can’t get to sleep so I’ll make a sports list” nights. What? I’m the only one that has those? Oh, well, I came up with my favorite 10 college football players of all time. And by “all time” I mean since I started watching college football (around the year 2000).
10. Mike Williams- Wide Receiver, USC
This was an extremely difficult decision, with Calvin Johnson being a close No. 11. Although both were extremely athletic figures, I just liked Williams more because it seemed like he made more exciting grabs of the ...
Hard Truth #2: Penn State's 2009 loss at Iowa wasn't a bad thing
Penn State Football —
Final hard truth #2 - Thank (the deity of your choice) that Iowa beat us last year. We would have been completely smoked by Florida and the backlash would have set the Big Ten's reputation back even further. Penn State would have replaced Ohio State as the conference scapegoat. Losing the national championship to a virgin quarterback would have caused a giant hole to open in the earth's crust, swallowing University Park whole, into a horrifying crevasse of hot magma, death, and sin. Graham Spanier's part would have come slightly undone ...
Best of the Aughts: These are the games of our lives
Dr. Saturday —
Once again we're gobsmacked by the routine passage of time: Ten years has passed like that, and to commemorate the artificially grouped events therein, the Doc Sat team is counting down the best of 2000-09. Today's category: Best game. ...
