Why Are The Orioles In First? Because They Got Rid Of This Lame Song.
Published 4/7/2008 at FanIQ Blog
Some of you probably think hell has frozen over, what with the Royals and the Orioles in first place in their divisions. But rather than prepare for the impending apocalypse, we should instead try and figure out how they've done it. For the Royals, it's obviously because they did this extremely racy calendar. But the Orioles, they're more difficult to explain, that is until I found out they dropped possibly the worst team anthem - Orioles Magic - in the history of sports. Yes, the Orioles early season can only be attributed to one thing and one thing ...

Who needs 'Orioles Magic' when you have the real thing?
Published 4/7/2008 at Big League Stew
Trick question: So if you take away "Orioles Magic," what do you get?   Trick answer: Orioles magic.   At least that appears to be the equation in Baltimore, where the O's are 4-1 and atop the AL East after baseball's first week. The irony comes in the fact that all four wins came after the team stopped playing the wonderfully catchy "Orioles Magic" fight song at the beginning of every game at Camden Yards. In its place since an Opening Day loss is the painfully generic "Click Click Boom" by Saliva. Even though they're winning, ...

If Scott Templeton Described This Music Video, You’d Swear He Made It All Up
Published 5/15/2008 by GC at Can't Stop The Bleeding
Tampa’s ascent to first place in the AL East has commanded plenty of TV time and column inches the past few days, but given the Rays’ stockpile of terrific young talent, the franchise’s first taste of prosperity is not entirely unexpected.  Baltimore’s respectable start (21-19 after Wednesday’s 6-3, comeback victory over Boston), is another story, however, one compelling enough for the club to have commissioned the video clip below (link courtesy Brendan Flynn) : ...

Top Ten O’s Improvements
Published 5/15/2008 by Heathir Irvin at Oriole Magic
Top Ten O’s Improvements I enjoyed a day out at the Yard today to see the O’s sweep the two game series against Boston.  Beautiful weather, Orioles baseball, and winning are a great combination.  And it’s even more fun when you get to torment your friend who is a Boston bandwagon fan. Thanks for hanging in there with me, everyone.  I officially graduate on Friday, but finished grad school a few days ago.  And now I can sit down and enjoy writing again, without having term papers and research hanging over my head.  It’s great to be free. Today I bring you my top ten list for Oriole improvements in 2008…  Enjoy! 10. Games being show ...

Big League Stewie Jennifer Feeney may not know it, but she just made my day — and my week and my month — by passing along the following remake of 'Orioles Magic,' as led by Kevin Millar and his merry band of O's. Says Feeney: "This video has been playing on the big screen at (Camden Yards) after the Orioles win. It is very entertaining. Actually, any video of Kevin Millar is entertaining." Jennifer, you couldn't be more right. So, O's fans, does this excellent effort by Millar make up for throwing out that ...

ORIOLES MAGIC, FEEL IT HAPPEN
Published 5/15/2008 at With Leather
The Orioles must have anticipated being slightly better than .500 this year, so they made this music video, which comes complete with arm-spelling and the fake-playing of instruments.  Looks like the whole video was shot inside Camden Yards, and I for one am a little disappointed that they didn't embrace their city and include Baltimore's noted landmarks, like... uh... the shipyards.  Or the abandoned warehouse district.  Or the tire fire.  A shame, really. Orioles Magic! Feel It Happen!
Published 5/15/2008 by Will Brinson at FanHouse
Filed under: Orioles, AL East, MLB Video, BaltimoreBack in the 1980's, music videos starring professional athletic teams were all the rage. It's nice to see that the Baltimore Orioles, who, at 21-19 seem to have forgotten exactly who, what, where and when they are, are keeping that tradition alive with Orioles Magic! Feel it hap-pen! I'm totally on board the bandwagon. There's no way I'm the only one who can actually see Kevin Millar playing the role of lounge singer after he retires. Via Hot ...

Orioles Magic Theme Song Music Video
Published 5/15/2008 at FanIQ Blog
SI's Hot Clicks sends us the best video you'll see all day. All week for that matter. Yes, even better than Manny's catch, or at the very least, the explains why the Orioles have bested the Red Sox this week. It's Orioles Magic. What do you do when your team is 21-19, a full 10 games better than most fans predicted? You create a music video of course. Led by Kevin Millar, this video is apparently played after each Orioles win on the big screen at Camden Yards. And when this is your reward, it's no wonder Baltimore is off to a great start. ...

Orioles magic (via Hot Clicks). Fun. Neat. But those guys have serious, serious work to do before they can sniff this performance by the Dodgers. Orioles Magic 2008: Because being over .500 this late in the season is worthy of song
Published 5/15/2008 at BBTF's Baseball Primer Newsblog
Orioles Magic 2008: Because being over .500 this late in the season is worthy of song As great of a song as “Orioles Magic” is, I think it is tempting fate WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much to being doing a “Superbowl Shuffle” style number at this time. Still, this further cements Kevin Millar as the baseball equivalent of William Shatner, only without Star Trek.

You have to figure that pretty much anything is fair game when Kevin Millar’s on your team. Mr. Cowboy Up was no doubt a part of this music video the Orioles filmed to promote the team for the upcoming season. An excellent find that Jimmy at SI passes along. Journal photo / Glenn Osmundson TWO TO GO: Let the countdown really begin. Manny Ramirez is two home runs away from 500, something he could accomplish in a single night. The anticipation began building during the last homestand -- the Sox stuck that '496' banner on one of the left-field light towers, but never got to update it as he went homerless against the Blue Jays and Rays -- and it'll be a nightly (or daily) thing now, starting this evening when the Brewers come to town. Joe McDonald looks at Ramirez' career and talks to ex-Red Sox pitcher Ken Ryan about facing Ramirez. "I ...

Millar's Still Crazy After All These Years

My friend Eddie in Maryland (onetime Orioles and now a Nats fan) sent me this cool video, an updated 2008 version of the "Oriole Magic" song, a staple at Orioles games many years ago. So what's an Orioles video doing on a Red Sox-oriented blog like this? I include it because it contains yet another priceless lip-syncing video performance by that crazy, lovable lug, Kevin Millar. You've got to love any video that includes him, even if it has nothing to do with the Red Sox. And speaking of Kevin Millar lip-syncing ...

That game was amazing. It calls for two things. (1) A look at the win probability over the course of the game: [image] The Yanks were in good positions throughout the game, but that upward sloping line at the end is all that matters. Individually, Damon has the player of the game (.519 Win Probability Added) while A-Rod, despite the HR, was Choke-Rod in this one (-.343 WPA). It's cool, because Nick was almost as bad (-.331 WPA). Aubrey Huff (.391 WPA) and Kevin Millar (.255 WPA) came up big for the O's. and (2) ORIOLES MAGIC

Roar of the Tigers went to Baltimore and all I got was this lousy blog post
Published 4 days ago by Samara Pearlstein at Roar of the Tigers
Most horrifying moment of the series: THAT PHOTO UP THERE. DO YOU GUYS SEE THAT? WHAT IS THAT? WHY IS THAT? You can, I am sure, imagine my PURE HORROR when I first saw that at the ballpark. During BP on Saturday, Inge’s hat stayed on, and it wasn’t until he trotted out of the dugout to warm up Nate in the bullpen, holding his mask, that we were treated to the sight of his startlingly bare pate. NO, I thought. NO, SURELY I AM HALLUCINATING FROM THE HEAT. Quick sidenote, but you guys, Baltimore is hot. When you are outside for any length of time, you kind of want to die. ...
