rusty weathers +2Terrible idea, annoying actor, ill-fitting helmet, microphone difficulty, lasted way too long. Other than that, it was awesome.-
MisterBaseball17 that was the best (horrible) thing i've seen all day.

Beyond embarrassing

I'm sorry...I'm so sorry. It's like a car wreck -- you can't turn away. Who on Earth thought this was a good idea? Here's some of the reaction from the Sportsnet forums -- all negative.
This Guy Is Why The Senators Are Down 0-3 To The Penguins

In all honesty, there was a bit too much hype over the movie 300. It wasn't that good of a movie people. But of course if you have a sports team with a mascot that in any way comes looks like a Spartan, you might as well use it for some stupid pre-game introduction that steals borrows heavily from 300.
This is the intro for the Ottawa Senators from the other night, and it may be the worst introduction in human history. Not really, but I know I'd be embarrassed to skate out after this asinine routine. By the way, listen closely. It sounds like ...
Theatrical Production of 'Gladiator' Breaks Out at Sens Game
Published 4/15/2008 at The Sporting Blog
It s Stanley Cup Playoffs time in Canada, which I imagine for our friends to the north is akin to the Super Bowl and Game 7 of the World Series combined with a touch of the Final Four mixed in. It s intense, hard-hitting, goal-scoring, beer-drinking, mullet-flowing, ice-hockey-action at its finest. So, how would the Senators go about pumping more enthusiasm into an Ottawa crowd whose collective head was about to explode with excitement? This is how: Um, awkward. Very, very awkward. Clearly, nothing says playoff hockey like a half-naked man, exposing his sculpted mits ...
Senators Spartan intro: Sens are down 0-3 because of this guy
Published 4/15/2008 by houroc at SportFiends
Ok so this may have been one of the worst intro’s to a game in history. I guess this was the Senators way of trying to motivate the team but instead it just turned out to be unbelievably embarrassing for the Sens and for hockey in general.
Terrible idea, annoying actor, ill-fitting helmet, microphone difficulty, lasted way too long. Other than that, it was awesome. The worst part about it is that they still lost the game and now they are down 3-0 to the Pens. ...
Funniest thing EVER

It's bad enough the Sens lost Game 3 at home, but prior to the game, they had to tolerate this nonsense. Just watch the first little bit after it zooms in from the Jumbotron. Can you imagine how ridiculous this had to seem to those players? Who thought this was a good idea? Probably the same genius that put the mural up.

Before any feelings of over confidence take over your being. Just think you could be waking up this time next week after a Game 7. We'd say the Ottawa crowd would be in a frenzy. But after this opening ceremony on Monday, who even knows. If you need that to get ...

Ottawa Senators know how to pump up the crowd
Published 4/16/2008 by PostmanR at The Postmen // A Sports Blog // Chicago, IL.
To those asking why a Spartan is attempting to pump up a crowd at an Ottawa Senators playoff game: I say to you this is actually a general who was on the senate of the Roman Empire. Hence their name: Senators. So at least they got that right. (Although, maybe they were just going for a 300 knockoff anyways.)
To those of you wondering if this was an effective tool or not: maybe it was cooler to see it live in the stadium?

Facing Elimination, The Senators Consider Skating Without Swords

Sure, they’re trailing Pittsburgh, 3-0. But imagine how badly Ottawa would be doing without stirring introductions like this? (thanks to Damian for the YouTubage).
Senators’ Intro Like Viewing Fall of Roman Empire

Here’s hoping the Pittsburgh Penguins, already up 3-0 in the series, are able to finish off the Ottawa Senators tonight in NHL playoff action. Ottawa Senators Pittsburgh Penguins Nothing against Daniel Alfredsson& pals personally, but if the Sens continue to present opening introductions like this one, the sooner their season ends, the better: (Video after the jump.) Well, apparently someone in the Senators PR department just got their special edition DVDs of “300″ and “Gladiator” in the mail. Unfortunately, based on the numerous audio dropouts heard, the team’s new wireless microphone must not have arrived yet - and neither has a ...
The Senators' senator

Well, that didn't work, did it? Note how he wears his chinstrap like a hockey player, which is why the helmet's rocking around like Marty Brodeur's and pulling the mike away from his face. And I love that he has his script written on his shield. Very... intimidating? (One wonders how other teams can replicate such an entrance? An extra from March of the Penguins for Pittsburgh? Or the Aflac duck in Anaheim?) . Labels: Senators ...
Ottawa's Confusing Pre-Game Presentation
Published 4/17/2008 by Eric McErlain at FanHouse
Filed under: General NHL, Penguins, Senators, NHL VideosEvery team in the league has some sort of pre-game video routine they use to amp up the home crowd, but the Senators tried something different last night in Ottawa before Game Four of their playoff series with Pittsburgh: Obviously, as Ottawa was swept out of the playoffs by the Pens, the presentation didn't exactly work terribly well, but it's also left me a little confused. I've always thought the Senators were supposed to be riffing off the Roman Senator motif, and the logo on the jersey was a ...

Lee Diekemper, who never got worked up about the Whalers (and their cool logo) leaving Hartford, recaps the night in the NHL playoffs.
Pittsburgh 3, Ottawa 1: The Pens become the first team to advance to the conference semifinals thanks to a sweep of the Sens. As a result, this Senator will have to find alternative work until next season. It’s the first time the Pens have swept a postseason series since they beat the Blackhawks in 1992 Stanley Cup Finals. The Pens defense limited Ottawa to 21 shots; the few opportunities the Sens had late were thwarted by Pens’ goalie Marc-Andre Fleury.
Suck on That, Sens!

Game tied at one apiece last night, and the Sens fans decided to break out the old “mock the opposing goalie” chant and serenaded him with “Fluuu-rryyyy, Fluuuu-rryyyy.”
As my seven-going-on-16-year-old would say; “Seriously?”
He shut you doofi out in game one, gave up three in game two, and only gave up one goal in game three. I swear, they make Philly fans look intelligent.
But, it is the team that gave us this:

Eulogy: Remembering the 2007-08 Ottawa Senators
Published 4/18/2008 at Puck Daddy
As the Stanley Cup Playoffs continue, we're bound to lose some friends along the journey. Gone but not forgotten, we've asked for these losers to be eulogized by the people who knew the teams best: The fans who hated them the most. Here's M. Forbes of Bitter Leafs Fan, fondly recalling this season's Ottawa Senators. Dearly beloved, the Senators' season ended at Game 86 Wednesday night. For once, choking wasn't the cause of death. The 2007-08 Senators were born of great promise. Fresh off the franchise's first Stanley Cup Final appearance, the team rolled out to a scorching 15-2 start. It ...

The Bryan Cares Not For Nature's Abhorence Of Vacuums -- Part 1: The Interviews

Many names have popped up in connection with the Senators' Head Coaching vacancy of late, some surprising, some not, some terrifying and others the obvious byproduct of someone's alcohol fueled imaginings (Paul Maurice? Really?). However, as the Cone Of Silence seems to have once again descended over 1000 Palladium Drive, we are left with little more than speculation and rumour as to how The Bryan intends to fill that vacancy (before the draft!....um, as soon as possible!...er...right quick!...eventually!) and with whom. Which of course means...you're in my wheelhouse now, baby. Through a combination of luck, ...
