College Football’s Inconvenient Truth
Signal to Noise —
Based on his MAC championship turnaround of a Buffalo Bulls football team that had been the worst in Division I-A when he took over in 2005, one would think Turner Gill would have already been money-whipped by a bigger football factory school by now. But no, Syracuse passed him over for Doug ...
Was Turner Gill Denied The Auburn Job Because Of His White Wife? [College Football]
Deadspin —
Every one is still scratching their heads over Auburn's hiring of Iowa State head coach Gene Chizik, except for those Tiger fans who have already upgraded to clawing their eyes out. Pretty much everyone agrees that Buffalo coach Turner Gill—who was interviewed for the job—is infinitely more qualified to run a football than "5 and 19 Gene." (And Tommy Tuberville is probably still more qualified than both of them, but that's another story.) Yet, Gill did not get the job and in case you hadn't noticed ... Gill is black. Now we're not saying that the powers that be at Auburn chose Chizik over Gill simply because Gill is ...

Why are people hating on Billy Sims for showing a little Sooner spirit at the Heisman ceremony on Saturday? Its a fucking college football award show people, not church.
Auburn was cool with Turner Gill being black, but not his wife being white.

It’s so frustrating because he should have gotten the Nebraska job, and it’s frustrating to me that a guy with a proven track record doesn’t get these jobs. It’s no disrespect to the coaches who get these jobs.” Members of the Alabama media are also scratching their heads over Auburn's ...

Steve Mooney, Gill's agent, was interviewed Tuesday on the Marty and Miller Show on Des Moines station KXNO. Mooney said his client was not going to be Iowa State's coach and would remain at Buffalo. You can listen to the interview by clicking here. Gill, 46, has since agreed to a contract extension with Buffalo through 2013. Gill was a finalist at Auburn but the Tigers decided to hire Gene Chizik, which created the opening at Iowa State. The hiring of Chizik, who left Iowa State ...

Hugging Harold Reynolds —
It seems like everybody else has an opinion on the Auburn coaching situation, so I thought I might as well weigh in, too. Let's get this out of the way first: I don't know if there were any racial motives behind Auburn passing over Turner Gill in favor of Gene Chizik for their head coaching job. Charles Barkley says there were. And ESPN's ...
