The Future of Sports Jounralism is DUMB and Unrecoverable
Mac Gs World —
Check out this clever video of Buzz Blowhardinger's HBO rants and be sure to watch the ending. I am trying not to beat this Will Leitch/Buzz Bissinger story into the ground because there are plenty of more intelligent writers who post on sports "blog" type sites for a real pay check that are much more eloquent than me on this topic. While I am offended by his narcissistic John McCain like views of our world/future, it does not strike a deep chord in me because it is not my livelihood. Plus, it is hard to reason or convince a crazy ranting old man. Maybe Will should have asked ...
Buzz Bissinger Has Accomplished The Near Impossible
Can't Stop The Bleeding —
He’s managed in the space of one premium cable roundtable chat, to make Will Leitch seem like an a thoroughly reasonable, if not likeable character by comparison.
Of course, Buzz has already demonstrated that he’s out of his fucking mind.
Journalists vs. Bloggers
Wax Heaven —
Check out this video from HBO’s Costas Now about their show on journalists vs. blogging. I think it’s pretty clear that Buzz Bissinger, author of ‘Friday Night Lights’ doesn’t like Will Leitch of Deadspin.com much. If you are unfamiliar with Deadspin, it’s one of the very best sports blogs on the Internet. ...
Bloggers Are People Too, Buzz
The Mighty Quinn Media Machine —
On Saturday afternoon, I caught a replay on HBO of "Costas NOW," which is Bob Costas' sports show. (I've always enjoyed his take on sports, especially baseball. Very similar to mine.) He had a special live show on this week about sports and the media, and the part that's gotten the most attention has been the part of the show about the Internet. He had on Will Leitch of Deadspin, the entertaining sports blog, and Buzz Bissinger, who is the author of many books on sports, most notably, "Friday Night Lights" and "Three Nights in August," which is about Tony LaRussa and the St. Louis Cardinals. (An interesting ...
Buzz and the blogs
John Clay's Sidelines —
Being too cheap to consistently shell out the big dough for HBO, I missed the heat-seeking missile Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Buzz Bissinger fired at Deadspin and blogs in general a couple of weeks ago during a forum discussion with Bob Costas.
The profanity-laced tirade, in which Bissinger dismissed blogs as the lowest form of sophomoric tripe, has been all the talk of the internet the past couple of weeks.
You can hear an excerpt from the show here, but be warned it includes objectional language. (It is HBO, after all.)
If you don't recognize the name, Bissinger wrote the classic "Friday ...

Eye On Sports Media
Athens, GA (April 30, 2008) - In watching the video of last night's live anti-blog tirade by Friday Night Lights author H.G. "Buzz" Bissinger on Costas NOW , my jaw dropped. Here was the boarding-school raised, Ivy League educated, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist teeing off on Will Leitch of Deadspin with enough foul-mouth profanity that a sailor might even blush. The blogosphere was abuzz ...
On Race, Message Boards And Shutting The Hell Up [On Race] —
Deadspin
Of all the panels on "Costas Now" the other night, the one we thought was most effective at tickling the cerebral cortex was the last one, about race, featuring Cris Carter, Michael Wilbon and Jason Whitlock. (It was so absorbing that "Costas Now" is doing a full 90-minute segment just on race down the line.) The most telling section, however, was from the video piece beforehand, which ...

The Fast and the Fabulous
Oh. My. God.
You have to watch this video clip of Buzz Bissinger , author of “Friday Night Lights,” having a serious meltdown over Will Leitch and his super popular sports blog Deadspin.com. It’s a segment from the Bob Costas show Costas Now. (I love Bob Costas by the way, but that’s neither here nor there)
This isn’t about NASCAR or racing specifically, but ...
For Your Edification... Buzz Bissinger Looks Like an Evil Ben Franklin —
JoeSportsFan.com
If you're not one who peruses other sports blogs (and deem yourself a JoeSportsFan loyalist), you probably haven't seen both of the following videos. Mr. Sebek alluded to and linked to the video of Deadspin editor Will Leitch's appearance on Costas Now two nights ago, a night in which the world witnessed the indignant wrath of author Buzz Bissinger. That video has since been pulled ...
THT Live:Prayers Sometimes Get Answered —
The Hardball Times
You know, I don't think Buzz Bissinger has any legitimate insight about blogs. I take it personally when people like Bissinger and Costas excoriate blogs. I honestly have no interest in watching that video segment of Bissinger ranting on Will Leitch. Joe Posnanski's blog entry about the episode is good enough for me.
Full Of Sound And Fury, Signifying Everything —
Signal to Noise
(Video via Awful Announcing .)
Everyone’s up in arms today over last night’s Costas Now , in which Will Leitch basically fended off H.G. “Buzz” Bissinger and Bob Costas as they ranted about blogging’s abusive tone and profane writing. Bissinger’s particular diatribe reeks of a noxious sort of desperation, one that a writer of his talent should ...
The Bissinger Video —
The Run of Play
Here’s the tape of the Buzz Bissinger-Will Leitch contretemps. Watching it again, I wish Leitch would have answered more directly in a couple of places (there are some moments that feel spun, and he seemed to sense that with Braylon Edwards there he couldn’t simply admit that his site mocks athletes). But it was also pretty astonishing to see Buzz Bissinger essentially accuse ...
What *They* Think Of *Us*... —
JoeSportsFan.com
By now, most have seen the intro and associated "town hall" featuring Bob Costas, Buzz Bissinger, Braylon Edwards, and Deadspin founder, Will Leitch.
If you haven't seen the video yet, head on over to Awful Announcing .
Because of Bissinger's tirades, Costas actually came off as moderately temperate in his denouncements of the sports blog world .
We're guessing Costas' intended ...
I Enjoy Bob Costas More Out Of Context —
Tirico Suave
In case you didn’t see the Costas Now feature that aired on HBO tonight dealing with the state of the sports media landscape, I’ll sum it up for you: anything that has ever gone wrong in the past, is currently going wrong or will go wrong in the future can be blamed on blogs, specifically [...]
