Pedro Martinez and Juan Marichal are cockfighters
Published 2/6/2008 by Richie Rich at Home Run Derby
What do pitchers Pedro Martinez and Juan Marichal have in common? Wait - what was that last one? That’s right. Pedro Martinez and Juan Marichal are cockfighters. Cock Fighting … in my opinion is a barbaric sport just as much as dogfighting is a barbaric sport. Right Mr. Vick ? Right Little Jerry ? The practice is often legal (if not celebrated) in many countries like the Dominican Republic - but that doesn’t make it right. For years, people have bred roosters to be aggressive - beyond their natural tendency to fight to establish a dominant pecking order. In these fights, the birds often ...
Video: Pedro, Marichal, Do Love Their Cockfighting
Published 2/6/2008 by Brooks at SPORTSbyBROOKS
Very sad video sent over by HOME RUN DERBY today that features Pedro Martinez and Juan Marichal involved in what appears to be a professionally sanctioned cockfight somewhere in the Dominican Republic:
The video is not for the faint of heart. Unless you’re from Louisiana or BFF’s with Roy Jones, Jr.

Pedro's Cockfight

Here is video of Pedro Martinez and Juan Marichal being involved in some sort of cockfight in the DR. I don't know whether to laugh or cry, but Pedro...come on, what the hell are you doing?! Even if it is legal down there, you still represent a New York ballclub. I just think he shouldn't endorse cockfighting, isn't that obvious? I'm not sure when this was recorded, but I assume he was on the Mets at the time. Thanks to Turkeyleg for the link, unreal.

Nate Little forwarded the below clip, previously posted at Metsheads.
This is quite a coincidence because one of my dogs killed a chicken the other day. I’d like to think Pedro Martinez and Juan Marichal have a little more common sense than a crazed collie/greyhound mix, but either way, right about now might be a great time for both to make a sizeable donation to PETA.
Pedro Martinez, Juan Marichal and a Cockfight
Published 2/6/2008 by PostmanR at FanHouse
Filed under: New York, Mets, NL East, MLB VideoWarning: potentially offensive video of a cockfight below. So here's a pretty tremendous find by the crew at Home Run Derby: it's Pedro Martinez and Juan Marichal starting off a cockfight in their native country of the Dominican Republic. Now, yes: cockfighting really isn't cool. After all, it is pitting gamecocks against each other, with one coming out alive and the other coming out dead. (I'm not entirely schooled on cockfighting, but I have a feeling there's been ...

Before we get started, I’d like to report a change in scheduling. My weekly radio segment has moved times and will now be airing Mondays at 8:25 PST on XM channel 144.
Although I’m stating the obvious, Johan Santana’s fantasy value sees a definite boost with the move to the Mets. Not only will the league switch be huge, but he also improves offenses as well. It’s ironic that the best pitcher in baseball has only one plus pitch. Of course, that pitch is probably the best in the game. Also, his command – the most important aspect of pitching – is pretty good as well.
I’m fascinated with ...

The Mets introduced Johan Santana to the media yesterday. Today they may be answering questions about Pedro Martinez's participation in cock-fighting in the Dominican Republic. Well, no, he isn't one of the fighters. But a video has popped up on Youtube of Pedro and Juan Marichal acting as "solitardes"- the person who puts the animal to fight. While cock-fighting is legal in the D.R., this is the 21st century!!! In more baseball related the news the Mets are said to be interested in former Yankee, Craig Wilson, and have been rebuffed by pitcher Oliver ...
