Mike Zigomanis Makes the Penguins a Complete Team
Pittsburgh Sports and Mini Ponies - Pittsburgh Sports Videos, Humor and Crack Analysis. And Ridiculously Small Horses —
15 or so games into the season, and the Penguins' savior has been the unlikely Mike Zigomanis. Last night, he cemented his position as unsung hero. If you missed the game, the Pens rallied from a 5-2, final period deficit to win 7-6 in OT. Tons of fans and writers are going to slobber over Jordan Staal...and rightfully so. He snapped out of a season-opening slump to record his second career hat trick. All three goals were scored in the third period, and he exerted his will over Pavel Datsyuk in the extra frame, sneaking up from behind, stealing the puck, and setting up Ruslan Fedotenko for the game winner. But there's more to hockey than just passing, shooting ...
Budaj Brilliant in Canucks-Avs Thriller
The Avslova Factor —
I've criticized Peter Budaj this season. This post will not do that. Instead, I'll say that last night was one of the better games I've seen in awhile and definitely one of Peter Budaj's best performances in the NHL. He out-dueled Roberto Luongo, the hottest goaltender in the league who entered the night with a three-game shutout streak. He made glove save, pad saves, toe saves, stick saves - you name it. The only goal was scored on a penalty shot. That means he has now let in 0 goals during regular play in the last two games. Not bad. He won the shootout by making terrific saves against Kyle Wellwood and Taylor Pyatt. He played a ...
Midseason Acknowledgements
Canes Country —
Midseason Acknowledgements Here’s my take on some of the bests and worsts halfway through the 2008-09 season. Stanley Cup favorites â Boston and Detroit: Yes, San Jose has the most points of any team in the league, but Detroit is the defending champion and just four points behind the Sharks. San Jose will need to get tougher to make it out of the West. The Bruins do everything well: defend, score, hit and stop the puck. The Red Wings are pretty much the same team as last year plus Marian Hossa . Hart Trophy â Jeff Carter (PHI): Not only is Carter leading the league in goals with 29, he is on the ice killing penalties for nearly 3 1/2 minutes a ...
2008-09 - A game-by-game recap - 6-22-09
Empty Netters —
For Penguins fans, the 2008-09 season was quite unlike anything they've ever seen. There were sicking lows and highs that future teams will never hope to outdo. It was a dazzling roller coaster that took place over parts of nine months.
This is a game-by-game look at all 106 contests the Penguins suited up for this season.
