Browns Lose to the Ravens - Wait, Hold on a Sec…
Published 11/18/2007 by Brian at Talking NFL
If you watch enough football, you figure to see just about everything and anything that can happen in a game. Well this afternoon, we saw the Browns brought back to life after their contest with the Ravens appeared to be officially over. Phil Dawson’s 51-yard field goal attempt was ruled no-good at the end of the game. However, the referee’s got together and correctly ruled that the ball had passed over the plain of the crossbar before bouncing back into the end zone when it hit the back support. (and since that explanation is terrible, here’s the video:) ...

Freakiest field goal EVER
Published 11/19/2007 at Sports Bastards
When does it take nearly five-and-a-half minutes to determine if a field goal is good or not? Watch and learn... Thanks to Phil Dawson, we now know that curved support bar is called a "stanchion". Who says football isn't educational?

Monday (Chet Taylor) edition: Wha’ Happened?
Published 11/19/2007 by RandBall at Randball
Sorry, Chester Taylor. In the rush to crown Adrian Peterson the greatest running back in Vikings history — which he already is, by the way — we forgot that you, too, are a pretty [redacted] good running back, too. Though not in the same class as Purple Jesus, you deserve a nickname, too, that perhaps works in tandem with PJ. Since we have no background in Christianity whatsoever, we will leave this task up to the members of the RandBall flock who are. Folks: Purple Jesus and Blank Blank. Who is Chester Taylor? Other things that happened? Well, if you picked up your Sunday newspaper of the Twin Cities and saw this ...

Expect the NFL to Change Instant Replay Rules, Make Field Goals Reviewable
Published 11/19/2007 by Michael David Smith at FanHouse
Filed under: Browns, Ravens, Cleveland, BaltimoreBy now you've probably seen the bizarre field goal at the end of yesterday's Browns-Ravens game: The kick was ruled no good on the field, then the officials discussed it, and then they (correctly) ruled it good. The NFL claims that instant replay was not used to make that ruling, as that would have been a violation of league rules. But I've heard from multiple sources today that you can pretty much count on the NFL competition committee to recommend -- and the teams to adopt -- a rule change this ...

Brian Billick isn't worried about Brian Billick
Published 11/20/2007 by Hermano at We Suck at Sports
What the hell is going on? The Cleveland Browns are in the talk for the post season! Surely the world has flipped upside down for this to happen. Believe it or not, the Browns are not only not terrible but their offense is actually pretty good. On the other hand, their defense is as bad as advertised. In fact, they allowed 30 points to the offensively challenged Ravens. During the telecast, the announcers talked about the plight of the Ravens - that is Brian Billick. This guy, a self proclaimed offensive genius, has coached an embarrassment of an offense for his entire tenure at Baltimore. The only teams that ...

Cleveland Kicker Phil Dawson Likes Hitting Those Crossbars
Published 12/17/2007 at SPORTSbyBROOKS
BROWNS BOOTER DAWSON DELIVERS ANOTHER CRAZY KICK: Phil Dawson likes to hit the bars - the crossbars. For the 2nd time this year, the Cleveland kicker connected on the back goalpost bar for an improbable field goal. On Sunday, in a blinding snowstorm against the Bills, the Browns booter attempted a 49-yarder: The ball appeared to be heading wide left, but it somehow made a right turn and just sneaked through the uprights, bouncing on the back bar. The kooky kick was similar to Dawson's goofy game-tying FG against the Ravens back in November: On the last-second 51-yard attempt, the ball again hit the back bar, but bounced out. Officials ...

It wasn't pretty, but I just witnessed the most satisfying victory since the Cleveland Browns returned to the NFL. Morning YouTubness: After Further Discussion...

I'm the King of the World! Wow. That's all I can say. By now, you have seen the end of the Browns/Ravens game from Sunday afternoon. Phil Dawson said it best when being interviewed, responding to a question with, "The Browns haven't had a call like this go their way in nine years." What is good for the state of the NFL is that the officials got the call correct, "reviewable" or not.

Doink! - Cleveland Browns 33, Baltimore Ravens 30

From all angles and view points, it was a make by Phil Dawson to send the game into overtime, but with games against the Chargers, Patriots and Colts looming, DOINK! might be the best expression Ravens fans can hope for this season.
