Rear-View Monday: The best second quarter of all-time
Goal-Line Stand —
The 2007 New England Patriots were something special. And although the roster is arguably just as strong, the 2009 version made it loud and clear from the outset that they wouldn’t be able to repeat their successes of ‘07. Books will surely be written about that magical ‘07 campaign, and there’s no use trying to get lightning to strike twice. But on Sunday, with unseasonal snow and eerily quick dusk falling on Foxborough, Massachusetts, the Patriots went out and played what might go down as the best game they’ve ever played. On paper alone -- without accounting for the conditions ...
Video: Pigeon Shines On Oakland Kickoff Coverage
SPORTSbyBROOKS —
Yesterday, during Oakland’s somewhat surprising upset of the Philadelphia Eagles, a stray pigeon found a moment of fame when it landed on the field before a kickoff, then provided as real an approximation of kickoff coverage as you’ll ever see a bird demonstrate. Video - which we can’t believe hasn’t been taken down yet - is after the break.
(Oh sure, he looks harmless now…)
Normally, it’s not exactly big news when an animal gets onto the field; sometimes, play is halted while players and staff shoo the animal away, sometimes we just ignore it. And ...
The Pigeon has Contain
Friends of the Program —
The Raiders desperately needed an edge this weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles and quite obviously it wasn’t going to come from Jamarcus Russell. Therefore they recruited the deadbeat cousin of their opponent’s mascot: The Pigeon. He stayed on the field most of the game, giving them the 12th man they always wanted. McNabb ...
Eagles no match for pigeon
Kissing Suzy Kolber —
To the surprise of no one, the Raiders were triumphant in their Super Bowl XV rematch against the Philadelphia yesterday. What was surprising was the Raiders twelfth man on special teams. WOOOO RAIDERS! SUCK IT, IGGLES! Look at that bird go. SUCK IT! WOOOOO! I wonder if it can play quarterback too? S & B BABY! SUCK IT, PHILLY! WOO-WOO!!!

Oakland Raiders Beat Eagles With Pigeons
Intentional Foul —
More surprising win yesterday? Oakland over Philadelphia? Kansas City over Washington? How about Buffalo over the New York Dirty Sanchezes? All were unexpected, but because of some avian intervention, Oakland’s win over the suddenly-hapless Eagles takes the cake — or the bird feeder, as it were. What we have is Oakland unveiling their special teams secret weapon: a pigeon who is disciplined enough to stay in his lane during kick-off coverage. Because the Raiders aren’t used to that kind of attention to detail, Al Davis is expected to sign his ...
Al Davis just signed that Pigeon
Outside the Boxscore —
I'm going to venture that most of you were surprised to see the Oakland Raiders beat the Philadelphia Eagles over the weekend. However, you will probably be even more surprised that Raiders got a little help from a pigeon. During the 4th quarter, the Raiders were kicking off after a Sebastian Janikowski field goal and a pigeon had wandered onto the field. The even more surprising thing is that he helped the Raiders on that kickoff coverage by flying down the field with the kick-off team. Fox broadcasters Sam Rosen and Tim Ryan were in stitches in the booth after seeing the ...
The Eagles Are No Match For Pigeons
BlitzNation —
You know how it always seems like old people are in touch with nature? Well, Al Davis is like 157 years old so over the years he’s learned how to communicate with all walks of life, including birds. On Sunday he recruited a very talented pigeon to help his pathetic team on special teams. Surprisingly, it worked!
I wonder if it can play quarterback too?
Something About a Pigeon at the Raiders Game
Major League Jerk —
I didn’t watch the Raiders/Eagles game yesterday because it wasn’t shown in my market and if I wanted to watch a 3 hour abortion I’d…better not finish that joke. But apparently there was a pigeon that stole the show from football play that was so poor that JaMarcus Russell was twice praised by the TV men. Think about that for a minute. How bad must the rest of the players be performing for JaMarcus Russell to receive praise? No wonder they were watching a pigeon.
Raiders Turn to Winged Rat for Help on Kickoff Coverage
The Sporting Blog —
In each of the Raiders two victories this year, they've put up 13 points. With an offense so parlous, the key to victory is to eke out a few scores while winning a war of attrition with their defense. It's usually ineffective, but it worked yesterday in a ...

Raiders Kickoff Pigeon, Video
NESW Sports, Sports Videos —
Raiders Kickoff Pigeon, Video. I talked to a animal psychologist and he said that the pigeon was drawn to the Raiders formation, much like a flock of birds. He flew down the field with the team, much like a flock. He stopped when they stopped. He said that he is surprised it does not happen much. ( disclaimer: I have never talked to a animal psychologist. )

Tremendous Upside Potential —
Don't get me wrong, I was just as distraught as everybody else about the stinkbomb submitted in Atlanta on Sunday night. We don't have to dissect it again, but a quick recap: poopy special teams, erratic QB play, defensive lapses, and embarrassing O-line play. How's that for the gist? ...
Foolish Thoughts: Eagles pigeon-holed, Titans Patrionized and Saints crush Giants
Fantasy Football Fools —
When things get back to normal, they also have to get weird. In the same week that Drew Brees blows apart the Giants like they read their defensive playbook to him as a bedtime story, Tom Brady returns to dominance in a frozen tundra that kept the Titans quarterbacks, both of them, for throwing for positive yardage.
I’d like to think that we have Brady back for good—mostly because I traded for him earlier this season in one league while he was struggling. But there’s no guarantee that this temporary return to form for many of the leagues top fantasy prospects sticks around. After all, the Raiders beat the Eagles ...

I'm a Bucs Fan now!
Hello, everyone! I’m Nacho. Sorry, Dad (JB, to you folks) is currently busy right now. Being beaten 59 to 0 by a man who impregnates models for a living isn’t exactly good for his psyche right now. I think some nice lady named Sculptor?!? just FedEx’d him a shipment of Crown Royal and ...
Your NFL Power Rankings: Week 6
No Guts, No Glory —
Week 6 was probably the most shocking week of the NFL season thus far. We saw a team get destroyed by 59 points, horrible teams getting the best of good teams, and great teams getting waxed by other great teams. There’s sure to be a lot of movement in the rankings this week and here they are.
1. New Orleans ...
Pigeon Plays Special Teams for Raiders
FanHouse —
by Josh Alper Filed under: NFLAl Davis has gotten a pretty bad rap when it comes to personnel acumen over the last few years thanks to ill-advised trades and free agent signings. The video below may change your mind about the Raiders owner, however.
Many players have been described as being so fast that they fly downfield, none of them have literally done it. Until now, that is.

Raiders' Justin Fargas: Pigeon on Field Was Spirit of Marquis Cooper
FanHouse —
by Michael David Smith Filed under: Raiders During Sunday's Eagles-Raiders game, a pigeon went onto the field, stopped briefly near where the Raiders were lining up for a kickoff, and then flew downfield in the same direction as the Raiders' coverage unit. It made for a funny viral video, but one Oakland player, Justin Fargas, thinks it was much more: He thinks the pigeon was the reincarnation of deceased ex-Raider Marquis Cooper.
