Gus Johnson, Where Art Thou?

By Chris Mottram If there was ever a sign that there may not be a god, this was it: Gus Johnson was in Denver over the first two rounds instead of being in Tampa. The fact that he wasn't calling the Western Kentucky-Drake game is a tragedy. Instead, Gus was stuck with mostly snoozers: Oral Roberts-Pitt, Winthrop-Wash State, GMU-ND, Temple-MSU, ND-Wash St. The one competitive/exciting game he called was Pitt-Michigan State, which most of us missed because of UCLA-Texas A Here are the highlights, which lack the typical Gus insanity, but still give us a good "Ha-ha!" along with a "Puuuuurrrre!": On Friday, he'll be calling Davidson-Wisconsin, so here's to ...
Don’t weep for Gus Johnson

Last night, someone (though I can’t remember who, which means this was probably an internal dialogue) mentioned that they thought Gus Johnson had a sub-par first round of the tournament. I disagree. Gus thrives in closing moments of games, and when the most exciting game you broadcast is a businesslike Michigan State win over Pittsburgh, there’s not much of a climax to build to.
So, no, Gus didn’t have a bad first round. His games did. Let the criticism die here.
Bill Raftery was also impressive. My dream is to some day pair Johnson and Raftery in a fusion of orgasmic ...
