Video: Rangers/Canucks Mini Brawl & Bench Altercation
Puck Central - A New York Rangers & NHL fan Blog —
It was a pretty regular game up until this mini brawl in the third period which was sparked by Ryan Kesler jabbing Marian Gaborik with his stick as the teams were changing lines. Then when all things appeared to be settled, Shane O'Brien, Darcy Hordichuk and Sean Avery got into an altercation on the bench. Thankfully Ray Ferraro was mic'd up between the benches working for TSN so we got to hear a little bit of what Sean Avery had to say (in the background at the 2:30 mark): It sounds like Avery says "shut the f**k up, ya f**ckin bum, yeah, you're a f**ckin bum Horichuk... you don't even belong in this ...

Puck Daddy —
Terrifically odd scene last night in the third period of the Vancouver Canucks' 4-1 victory over the New York Rangers: Marian Gaborik(notes) gives Ryan Kesler(notes) the weakest slash to the leg in recent memory, sparking a fight-less melee during a line change that actually had 10 players on the ice for New York. Once that situation was defused -- and it did look like it was going to boil over a few times into an old school 1970s sprawling slugfest -- the action moved to the benches, where Canucks defenseman Shane O'Brien(notes) decided ...
Rangers/Canucks Non-Brawl

Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy takes a look at the scrum during the Rangers/Canucks game last night that ended up with 10 Rangers on the ice, Sean Avery mixing it up with Shane O'Brien from the bench and no punched thrown... Crash the Crease —
Last night in the 3rd period of the Canucks/Rangers game while the Rangers had 10 players on the ice and the Canucks had 7 players on the ice a bit of a shoving match broke out. This certainly could have got out of hand a few times, especially in the penalty box and with sticks swinging between benches.

Brostud's Fight in Numbers
Bangin Panger —
Yes, I just made up the word brostud, it's like a mix of frat boy cowards who talk shit when there's like 30 of 'em and 6 of you. Take for example, the New York Rangers. Now usually, the Rangers would be a little too afraid of getting into too much of a ruckus, Gaborik might get hurt, watching. But last night against the 'Nucks, well, when you've got numbers, you gotta take advantage. Check out the 2:11 mark, those bastards who beat Mystery, Alaska, have 2 lines out on the ice. Not even Kesler can beat those odds. Lance Armstrong could, but Ryan Kesler cannot. ...
A Good Ole Fashion Hockey Brawl
Outside the Boxscore —
During last night's matchup between the New York Rangers and the Vancouver Canucks, Canucks center Ryan Kesler got into an altercation with New York Ranger left-winger Marion Gaborik. Then it spiraled into a huge brawl which pitted many Rangers players against a few Vancouver Canucks. After that, Rangers defensiveman Sean Avery got into a spat on the bench with Canuck Shane O'Brien. I think even Robin Scherbatsky would be impressed. (Courtesy of Puck Central) ...

O'Brien May Face Disciplinary Hearing For Avery Incident
Nucks Misconduct —
TSN is reporting that Shane O'Brien may be in a little bit of hot water for poking at Sean Avery with his stick from the bench. Comically, Avery grabbed the stick out of O'Brien's hands and kept himself rather composed.
Rangers' Dane Byers may face a 1 game suspension plus a $10,000 fine for instigating a fight with Tanner Glass with less than 5:00 left in the 3rd period (18:50 mark). That's comical too because he'd more or less have triple punishment for his crime: suspension, fine and his ass beat. Just saying.

Shane O’Brien suspended for one game
Crash the Crease —
The NHL has suspended Vancouver Canucks defenseman Shane O’Brien for one game for his altercation from the bench with Sean Avery during Tuesday’s game against the New York Rangers.
While O’Brien and Avery were at their own benches, Shane O’Brien leaned over and poked at Avery with his hockey stick, Avery then grabbed his stick and threw it on the ice.
O’Brien will miss Thursday’s game against the Minnesota Wild.

O’Brien Suspended For Hitting Avery
Hockey Beat —
Shane O’Brien strikes again. He’s hot-tempered and I think he gets into more penalty trouble than he should and this is no exception. The NHL has suspended the Vancouver Canucks defenceman after his stick made contact with New York Rangers player, Sean Avery, while they were both seated on the bench. ...
