Nick Rimando sends RSL to their first MLS Cup final
SoccerBlog.com —

The Fire fell victim to a peculiar directional bias that made them test Rimando low on his left as Thorrington, Pause, and Prideaux became predictable.
Rimando's gesture to Javier Morales to keep his chin up after the crestfallen Argentinian midfielder missed his chance to bring RSL parity was part of his heroics. He nearly pulled it off when he stood up just a fraction late for Wilman Conde's direct blast at goal and the ball sped through ...

No Short Corners —
After a pair of gripping conference finals, our MLS Cup match-up for next weekend takes the all-East flavor from last year's final out west. It will be the Los Angeles Galaxy (yes, THAT L.A. Galaxy... paging Sky, BBC, iTv and every rotten paper rag to the airport, pack as if staying in London) pitted against upstarts Real Salt Lake at Qwest Field in Seattle a week from today. How the west was won... And I'll add the regulation clip when it surfaces because the East final was a helluva 0-0 game for most of 120 minutes. The Beautiful Game —
Real Salt Lake? Wow. What a run for the underdogs. They survived (barely) a crazy last weekend in the regular season. Then they eliminated the defending champs in the first round. Finally, on Saturday they went to Chicago and eliminated the Fire via shootout (thank you Nick Rimando). Incredible stuff for a team I've written off over and over again. RSL will play the L.A. Galaxy for the MLS Cup at 5:30 p.m. Sunday here in Seattle. Do they have one more surprise in store...? Doubtful. ...
Sober Second Thoughs: A Real* head-shaker
The 24th Minute —
The image -- the last image, really, of the 2009 home season -- is stuck in my head. As Toronto FC celebrated a 1-0 win over Salt Lake on Oct. 17 a SLC player dropped to the turf. His head hung low. His body language that of a defeated man. Players in red rejoiced. Players in white walked aimlessly around, looking hopeless. ...
