Does anyone have David Stern’s number?
Published 4/3/2008 by Cuzzy at Cuzoogle
For those who have not seen it, here is the crime of the night. It happened to the Heat and they replayed it, would this happen to the Spurs or the Lakers? No way. Just the Raptors because as Alonzo Mourning showed us all, you can kick the Raps in the gut and still be talked about like a hall of famer. From today’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution The Hawks can expect an official protest of Wednesday’s victory over the Toronto Raptors, their second of the season including the Miami Heat’s protest of the finish of a Dec. 19 loss ...

Worst of the Night: April 2, 2008
Published 4/3/2008 by Basketbawful at Basketbawful
Phillips Arena timekeepers: This is a situation that would make Vince McMahon proud. T.J. Ford seemingly hit a game-winning layup at the buzzer -- off an amazing halfcourt lob pass from Carlos Delfino, by the way -- but after a lengthy video review, the officials determined that Ford released the shot after the clock had expired. It was on to overtime, where the Hawks prevailed over the Raptors 127-120. Just one problem. The arena's timekeepers shaved 0.1 off the clock before the play, which deprived Ford of the split second he needed -- and deserved -- to complete the play. And ...

Another Call For More NBA Transparency
Published 4/3/2008 by Rob at Upside and Motor
So this is today's big thing: an overtime loss for the Raptors' from what appeared to be a referee mistake: the referee timekeeper in Atlanta seemed to have started the clock prematurely, causing a wave-off of a potential game-winning alley-oop by T.J. Ford. I could write about what I think happened, but I'm not sure that really matters. Instead, this provides yet another example of why we need more NBA transparency. This situation is very muddled. Referees, because of NBA rules that restrict what is reviewable in-game, would not have been able to make a call based on the clock anyway (According to a league ...

2007-08 NBA Worsties: Part 6
Published 8/20/2008 by Basketbawful (noreply@blogger.com) at Basketbawful
Okay, okay. I've been promising Part 6 of the 2007-08 Worsties for a few weeks now. It's time to deliver. This installment covers the end of the regular season leading into the playoffs. Creepy merchandising: The NBA marketing geniuses unveiled a series of mildly disturbing bobblepop dolls, the creepiest of which was, without question, the Steve Nash version (although the Dirk Nowitzki bobblepop came close). Poor "Nash" looks like the mutant love child of Pee-wee Herman and Annie Lennox. Which pretty much means it just looks like Annie Lennox. Sweet dreams are not ...

Wow. Bad call

One game, some things, v1.52 1.[amp]nbsp;Wow. Bad call. Based on some slow-mo PVRing, the refs got the call correct on the release --[amp]nbsp; it looked like Ford's fingertips were just brushing the ball when the horn sounded, so on that basis the ...
