Rick Ankiel really never ceases to amaze me. I mean, first the guy is a young, left-handed pitching phenom -- a star on the rise. Then some kind of mental freakout leaves him in a constant state of ball throwing and he plummets back to the minors. Then he reinvents himself as an outfielder and returns to the big leagues. Amazing. If it ended there it would've been a nice, warm story readymade for a Disney movie. Instead, he keeps doing things like last night, where he made two RIDICULOUS throws from center field and also hit a home run. I tried to make a throw like that in ...

I somehow forgot to include these two unbelievable throws in the MLB Walk-Off below, but on second and third viewing I believe it deserves it's own post.
Rick Ankiel lost the ability to hit a catcher's mit over home plate long ago, but what he hasn't lost is his cannon. Nor his accuracy, so long as the target is third base.
Check out these two absurd throws from deep center field, and then at the wall in the deepest part of Coors field.
Both hit the absolute perfect spot in front of the base without touching the ground. Seriously, those are two of the best ...

I've often thought (and occasionally said) that Rick Ankiel had one of the most fascinating -- and these days, surprisingly satisfying -- pro sports careers of our time. On Tuesday night, he added another chapter to his story, Roy Hobbs-style. If you haven't seen these two throws, you best get your thumb out of your bunghole and take a look. This is pure filth.
