Your only hockey clip of the year...
Published 1/18/2008 by TJ at Gheorghe: The Blog
...so enjoy it. This is Rick Nash last night making the Phoenix Coyotes look silly. And yes, I am actually familiar with Mr. Nash's work. That makes the total number of NHL players I can name 14.

Radiating bitter hate waves
Published 1/18/2008 by mike w at Covered in Oil
So last night's game against Carolina was a nice serving of steaming ass. It doesn't help that the Oilers D Corps are pretty much bruised tissue at this point, and that with other injuries and a top line out of gas, the "play the kids" concept looked as bad as it usually does when a team isn't very good. Surprisingly, even Mathieu Garon let in some soft stuff. And as much as I still have dying embers of love for Patrick Thoresen, if he's the best Oiler out on the ice in a given night the team is going to lose. The 2006 Stanley Cup Finals never looked so far away... So yeah, as you can guess, the loss brought out what I like to call "the bad ...

Amazing Rick Nash Goal Versus Coyotes Video
Published 1/18/2008 by Tyler at NHL Digest- Hockey News and Equipment Reviews
Rick Nash scores an amazing goal against the Phoenix Coyotes in this video. Nash makes three amazing moves, turning the Coyote defense inside-out and finishes by showing amazing patience with the puck. The key about this goal is that it was Nash’s 3rd point of the night and came with just 0:21 left in a tie game…that is what we call “clutch“! ...

NHL: Rick Nash Scores Goal Of The Year
Published 1/18/2008 at FanIQ Blog
It's not often I get all excited about an NHL play, but Rick Nash does the trick here leaving numerous Coyotes in his wake. That would include the goalie, who had zero chance. Awesome play. Goal of the year?

Rick Nash Provides Further Evidence That The Shootout Blows [NHL Closer]
Published 1/18/2008 by Leitch at Deadspin
The NHL Closer is written by Greg Wyshynski, of The FanHouse and The Fourth Period. He is also the author of Glow Pucks And 10-Cent Beer. If you haven't see Blue Jackets' star Rick Nash scoring the "eye-popping flurry of head fakes, shoulder shimmies and puck dekes" goal of the season thus far, you will after the jump. It's doper than dope, made even more so by virtue of having won Columbus's game against red-hot Phoenix, 4-3, with 22 seconds left. It was the kind of highlight that can never occur in an overtime skills competition because it was so spontaneous and involved defensemen playing, ...

Nash's Early Entry for Goal of the Year
Published 1/18/2008 by Joe Dumas at Off Wing Opinion
Nash's Early Entry for Goal of the Year Warning: You might want to put on some sort of chin-strap, or make sure you are over a soft surface, because your jaw will hit the floor. There's no way around it. This goal is that good. See for yourself. I'm not sure if the defense knows quite what happened yet. Nash just went through and undressed them before cutting around Tellqvist and snapping the puck into the open net. Take into account it was a tie game, and Nash scored with 22 seconds to go, and that play is the definition of a clutch goalscorer. Nash Scores A Beauty

On Thursday I wrote this article celebrating the two year mark of Alexander Ovechkin's amazing, back on the ice goal against the Coyotes. Rick Nash must read this blog and must have been inspired by Ovechkin's magic, because last night Nash got in on the action and stick handled his way into the highlight ...

It’s darn cold up here in Hespeler so I’m a bit cantankerous today so I’m coming out blasting today and nobody is safe. Brendan Shannahan bugs me, he preaches his holier then though crap and then launches a Sabre head first into the net almost killing the poor kid, just brutal. Speaking of the Rangers what the heck is wrong with Lundqvist, he is messed up right now but I don’t see that lasting. T.O. crying and saying…”that’s my QB” or whatever he was blubbering about was priceless, how long before he takes up full residence in the loonie bin? Well after a month of ...

It’s not often that we give hockey some love on Sportable.  That doesn’t mean, however, that we aren’t still paying attention to it.  Check out this goal from Rick Nash against the Coyotes.  Goal of the year?  How about goal of the 21st century.  I still can’t believe what I just saw. ...

Rick Nash's Goal of the Year
Published 1/20/2008 by Sean at Sean Leahy's Going Five Hole
I'm a few days late here, but what a sick goal by Rick Nash the other night against Phoenix to give the Blue Jackets the lead with just 20 seconds remaining in the game. In basketball, there's a phrase when a player gets dunked on that he's been "posterized". Well, it's 2008 and with the internet technology we have, I've created a new word for "posterized" (I don't think anyone has come up with this). The Coyotes defense on that play was "YouTubed". Yeah, I don't know if that'll catch on or not. Nonetheless, here's the goal.

Shut Out the Shootout
Published 1/28/2008 by Rob Visconti at The Cheap Seats
I'm not coming around on the NHL's use of the shootout. Not at all. A few weeks ago I referred to the shootout as "the trumped-up practice drill that the NHL uses to break tie games." That reference garnered a few emails arguing that the average fan has been won over by the shootout, and that the shootout, while imperfect, is a means of avoiding the most unfulfilling conclusion in all of sports -- the tie. To which I respond: good points. But the shootout still isn't hockey, just as "h-o-r-s-e" isn't basketball and "500" isn't baseball. After the lockout, when the league first implemented it, I was so happy to have ...

Well, I've decided to give this another shot. Due to time constraints last year, I was unable to continue to post regularly and decided to hang it up. But with this being Shea Stadium's last season, I figure I should at least record my memories along the way; when my son grows up, he'll hopefully see that Dad was semi-lucid for at least part of his life. Citifield is still a season away from opening but I'm looking forward to Shea's last hurrah...and seeing the NY Mets make the most of it. I'll be leaving the cold and snowy NY area on March 15th to visit a ...

x-posted on Bethany's Hockey Rants It’s funny, this season has been the best season to be a Blue Jackets fan. It’s been one of heartache, one of hope, and really just a new beginning. While we may be out of the playoff picture now, we were in it to the mid March. Most of the time we are out at Christmas. How amazing is it to be able to say we fought, we were so close to making a spot. I wanted to wait to do this post until the end of the season, but, it’s just easier to do it now. The Jackets started their season out with a bang. Our goaltender, Pascal Leclaire has nine shutouts to date. ...

How Rick Nash became the new NHL 2K9 cover boy

Ovechkin. Iginla. Zetterberg. Annually, the same famous names always seem to emerge when the team at 2K Sports begins debating over which player will star on the cover of its latest NHL video game. Rick Nash of the Columbus Blue Jackets has been on the short list of finalists for the last few years. Musicians still throw elbows at peers to get on the cover of Rolling Stone; for a generation of young NHL players like Nash, being featured on a hockey title for Xbox or PlayStation is attaining a similar level of validated celebrity. "My idols have all been on the covers of video games as I was growing ...

Blake Hoffarber up for his second ESPY
Published 22 days ago by Tom (noreply@blogger.com) at Gopher Nation
The ESPY Nominations were released today. Blake Hoffarber's shot to beat Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament has earned a nomination. I don't know the stats or ESPY records but he would have to be one of the few (if not only) amateurs to win an ESPY. Really he could become the only person to win multiple ESPY's who's name is NOT Tiger Woods. Hoffarber's competition? #1 - Super Bowl: Eli Manning to David Tyree... This one is obviously the heavy favorite. It is arguably the best play in Super Bowl history. I'm not sure the legend that is Blake ...

Arizona well represented in ESPY nominations
Published 20 days ago by Vince Marotta at AZ Sports Hub - Arizona's Destination for Sports - Blogs - Podcasts - Forums
I know, I know. The ESPY Awards handed out annually by ESPN are nothing but a gigantic commercial for the network, and a way for the sports juggernaut to brown-nose athletes from a multitude of sports. But, this is the 16th year they’ve handed the things out, so I guess they are gaining a little bit of legitimacy. Plus, Justin Timberlake is hosting this year, so there’s more credibility right there. The state of Arizona was very well represented in the ESPY Award nominations, which were announced earlier this week. Here’s a rundown of Arizona’s ESPY nominees: Best Female ...
