The Ice Sheet: The Problem in Philadelphia
FanHouse —
Filed under: General NHL, Flyers, Bruins, NHL InjuriesEvery day from Monday to Saturday, The Ice Sheet will take a look at the biggest stories in the league that happened on the ice and elsewhere the night before. Can we possibly get through a weekend without seeing another member of the Philadelphia Flyers get rung up for a game misconduct and take his place in line for yet another disciplinary hearing with Colin Campbell? I guess the answer is no, as Philadelphia's Riley Cote took the opportunity to step up on Saturday night and go head hunting. His target: Matt Niskanen of ...
Should We Get These Guys Crested Blazers?

Over the weekend, I thought of posting a question asking which Flyer would be the next to earn himself a suspension. We may already have our answer. If the haters covering the NHL in Canada and elsewhere have their way, Riley Cote may become the latest member of the Suspension Club. Cote came hard with an elbow in Saturday's loss to the Stars, and deserved a penalty for the hit. But that's all. That's why there is such a thing as the Elbowing penalty call. Not surprisingly though, TSN.ca speculates not only that a suspension may be in the works, but also some kind of penalty against the Flyers for the repeated offenses this ...
Flyers get warningBettman threatens timeout in corner

Riley Cote received a three-game suspension today: NHL commissioner Gary Bettman issued the Flyers a warning, apparently telling them the next suspension will result in hefty fines for the organization. Cote was the fifth Flyers player to be suspended through 25 games, boosting the total suspensions this season to 52 games. "The question was raised about ramifications if it happens again," GM Paul Holmgren said, refusing to elaborate. "Obviously, we're under watch, I guess." Labels: Flyers ...
Flyers "on notice"

Our dislike of this trend may be because we liked things fine the way they were, but really, I think it has more to do with the NHL's inability to apply these suspensions with any type of consistency.
Five Flyers have been suspended this year, for a total of 52 games. When Steve Downie was handed the first letter from Toronto after a nasty hit on Ottawa's Dean McAmmond in the preseason, it was debated whether he should have been ...

Some of you may remember our utterly hilarious chat with the Devil fans over at 2 Man Advantage a while back. That seemed to work out pretty well, so to get the perspective of the fans of another one of the Rangers’ division rivals, and in advance of today’s game in Philadelphia, we reached out to the guys at The 700 Level. Like us, they seem to remember that this whole fandom thing shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
We threw them a few questions about the Flyers, they responded in kind about the Rangers, and in between some mutual ball-busting, we managed to squeeze in some ...
