The Rest Of The Big East Is Officially On Notice : Do Not Breathe On Jonathan Wallace
Published 2/12/2008 by GC at Can't Stop The Bleeding
OK, this wasn’t quite the 1972 Men’s Olympic final, but you’re not gonna see too many other instances nearly as blatant where crap officiating decided a game’s outcome. Though Georgetown’s 55-53 victory over ‘Nova spared the Hoyas their 2nd consecutive defeat, at the very least this game should’ve gone to O.T. tied at 53.

Villanova Jobbed? Not So Much
Published 2/12/2008 by Russell at East Coast Bias
At the end of the Villanova - Georgetown game tonight in DC, a questionable foul was called which led to game-winning free throws by the Hoyas. The relevant sequence is shown below. ESPN would have you believe that the official should have "swallowed" his whistle for this one so the teams could decide it in overtime. I disagree. The Villanova player's decision to challenge Wallace's path up the court was poor. Even if there were two more seconds on the clock, Wallace could not have advanced the ball past half court or gotten off a good shot. The Wildcat clearly ...

The Nightcap

Girls basketball recap: Earlier this evening, with Rutgers head coach Vivian Stringer looking snappy in a pink suit and her team wearing uniforms of the same color to promote breast cancer awareness, the Scarlett Knight appeared headed to an upset victory over the Lady Vols, but some suspicious timekeeping resulted in a bitter defeat for the team in the pink shoes. Men's basketball recap: Villanova wanted to do their part to raise awareness of breast cancer, but rather than wear pink, they chose to shoot the ball as if they were a girls ...

Was Villanova Robbed?
Published 2/12/2008 by Fadango at SportSayers.com
In an intense game yesterday between Georgetown and Villanova, a somewhat controversial call was made at the end of regulation. This has sparked many debates, with many people arguing both sides of the call. It was a tied game with just a couple seconds left. Georgetown had the ball at the opposite end of the floor. With the clock at 1 second, a foul was called on Villanova, which sent Georgetown to the line where he would make both free throws to win the game. Had the foul never been called it would of most likely gone into overtime. The Controversy What ...

Officials or Stooges? I can't tell

John Cahill, Karl Hess, Bob Donato No these men did not play Larry, Moe and Curly but their performance last night might as well be categorized as "Three Stooge-esque". And I think its about time we started calling out some of these officials by names. I mean, they go out of their way to make themselves the stars of the game, so why not shower them with some love in print as well. If you havent seen the play, you're missing out on a doozy. Villanova's Scottie Reynolds drove to the basket and got his pass blocked. After a scrum for the loose ball, Georgetown's Jonathan Wallace picked ...

Georgetown Gets Another Gift
Published 2/12/2008 by Dan Steinberg at D.C. Sports Bog
Georgetown Gets Another Gift I still think Georgetown is the best local team, and I still think the Hoyas will go far in March (or, this year, April), and I still think they have a real knack for pulling out close games and would probably have won last night in overtime, but c'mon. It's not a foul with five minutes gone by in the first half, and it's dang sure not a foul 70 feet from the basket with less than a second left. Lots of people this morning are saying "if it's a foul it's a foul, no matter how much time is left," which I can live with on a drive to the basket that draws moderate contact, but not on a blocking call at the ...

Not Sure, But Wallace May Have Been Fouled
Published 2/15/2008 at The Sporting Blog
By Chris Mottram You may recall the Villanova-Georgetown game Monday night in which the referee completely ruined an otherwise classic (note: overstatement) Big East contest by calling a foul with 0.1 seconds left, about 200 yards from the basket. We all felt cheated. It sucked. What a horrible way to end a game, right? Rich Chvotkin, who calls the Hoyas' games old-school radio style, probably didn't feel that way: Sean McDonough, on the other hand, was not as pleased with the call. Rich Chvotkin Believes Wallace ...

Things You May Not Have Known About The Summer League Roster
Published 19 days ago by JakeTheSnake at Bullets Forever: Front Page Posts
A few days ago, Mike Jones (who!) gave us a look at this year's summer league roster.  Mainly, this is going to give some of the younger players like Blatche, Young, McGuire, Pecherov, Veremeenko and McGee a chance to get some playing time and work on their games during the off-season. The thing is, unless you're the Trail Blazers and you have loads of draft picks available, you're going to have to sign some players that aren't a part of the team to fill out the roster.  Most of the time these players are just that serve as minute eaters for the starters, but you never know when you ...

Georgetown Hoyas - Undressed

The loss means nothing in the long term - the Hoyas can still capture the Big East championship and lock a top seed in the national tournament. But the Cardinals undressed the Hoyas enough to expose a blueprint on defeating the Hoyas in pressure-packed situations.

The Bog Poll Comes in on Little Cat Feet

These Terps look familiar, don't they? Not the individual players - I think it's safe to say we haven't seen anyone quite like Greivis Vasquez or Bambale Osby before. And not just the style of play - that is pretty typical of a Gary Williams team. No, I am referring to the arc of the season, the plot line, as it were. I have no stats to back this up, but I am willing to bet that over time, ...
