Dunk contest participants announced, we give it an "8"
Ball Don't Lie —
The names have been announced, none of them were very
surprising; and while we're stopping short of calling the list uninspiring, the
best the NBA can say is that it didn't make any obvious mistakes.
Ladies and gentleman, your 2008 Slam Dunk Contest
participants are,
Gerald Green,
Jamario Moon,

3 Shades of Blue —
Sorry for the lack of updates and links lately. New job = new work schedule. To make up for it, here's an extra-large helping of links. Rudy Gay is in the Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk Contest. He will be facing reigning champ Gerald Green, the man-beast who should have won last year in Dwight Howard and rookie surprise Jamario Moon. He is asking for all the help he can get, as he is requesting that fans offer submissions via YouTube that could assist him in capturing the crown. Go to http://www.youtube.com/rudygay22slamdunk for all the ...
Help Rudy Win
SOX & Dawgs —
And no I am not talking about Rudy Giuliani.
For those of you with ups or hops or whatever the kids are calling it these days, this is your chance to help former UConn star Rudy Gay win the NBA Slam Dunk contest in February. He will be competing against Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic, Jamario Moon of the Toronto Raptors and last years winner Gerald Green of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Green was a member of the Boston Celtics when he won.
All Rudy wants you to do is submit a video of a dunk which you think he could use to win the contest. If he likes your dunk, he will use it. For all the information and rules on ...
Introducing Your Slam Dunk Contestants
Intentional Foul —
Yes sir, the NBA’s Slam Dunk contest is Saturday night and it has the makings of being quite memorable. We have some up-and-coming contestants who have displayed an aerial skill that should provide some high-jumping fireworks Saturday evening. Oh yeah, Dwight Howard will be there too, and that’s always a plus (alas, no 12-foot rim, however).
The beauty of this year’s contest is being limited to four dunkers. No longer are we going to have to sit through two slower rounds while the lesser dunkers remove themselves from the competition. Instead, we have four players, ...
Handicapping The Slam Dunk Contest
The Sports Lounge —
Today is All-Star Saturday, which means we get to watch the 3-point shootout, skills competition, and most importantly the slam dunk contest. The All-Star festivities and the game itself are largely glorified, but its still a spectacle to watch nonetheless. The slam dunk competition has lost a lot of its appeal in recent years, but its still one of the coolest All-Star events of any sport around. This year the contestants are defending champion Gerald Green, Dwight Howard, rookie Jamario Moon, and Rudy Gay. Here's a look at each players top 10 dunks, courtesy of YouTube and NBA TV. ...
Introducing the Vancouver Scarier-Than-Memphis-Grizzlies
The On Deck Circle —
[image] This article has been submitted by Rob Shaw. Imagine David Stern woke up one morning and realized that he has let the NBA completely abandon basketball fans in the Pacific Northwest, first allowing the Vancouver Grizzlies to move to Memphis and then the Seattle SuperSonics to relocate to Oklahoma City. Imagine Stern felt so bad that he granted the Pacific Northwest a new franchise – obviously in Vancouver because he feels awful that during the first go round Vancouver fans had to endure Bryant “Big Country” Reeves’ hair cut – and gave this new franchise the opportunity to pick up any player in the NBA it wished so long as ...
Rudy Gay
UCONN | Men's Basketball —
Rudy Gay was at Gampel Pavilion Monday to play some basketball and speak to the 24 players at Jim Calhoun's Connecticut Elite Camp.
"When you step in between these lines [at Gampel] there's a certain amount of pride you have to have in the game and the school," Gay said. "Everybody who is here comes back for a reason. I came back for a reason - to show my respect. I respect the program, respect Coach and I love being here."
Gay averaged 20.1 points and 6.2 rebounds last year for the Grizzlies. He averaged 10.8 and 4.5 as a rookie in 2006-07.
"He's a SportsCenter highlight tape and everybody knows him," ...

Let's talk about the real robbery yesterday
Bullets Forever —
Nick Young wasn't invited to the Slam Dunk Contest!
It's a good thing that yesterday was Christmas or else yesterday would've been absolutely abysmal.
Obviously, I'm not too upset that Dwight Howard got an invite over Nick Young. The man knows how to put on a show and there would be quite a few people upset if they didn't get to see his phonebooth dunk. I'm not too upset over the three rookies (Russell Westbrook, Joe Alexander, and Rudy Fernandez) getting a shot to participate either. All three of them have some explosive hops and whoever is chosen should be a worthy contestant. ...
Rumor: Rondo, Scal for Grizzlies' Conley, Gay
RedsArmy.com - The Voice Of Celtics Fans —
The latest Rondo trade rumor comes via Marc Spears: While there has been talk around the NBA from several scouts that the
Celtics have been shopping guard Rajon Rondo, he isn't expected to be
dealt. While unlikely, one Eastern Conference executive said the latest
trade rumor included Rondo and forward Brian Scalabrine going to
Memphis for guard Mike Conley and swingman Rudy Gay. On the flip side,
one NBA GM said that he asked Celtics president Danny Ainge about Rondo
and Ainge said he didn't want to trade him. No way. No, no, no and no. That's my initial reaction to this rumored ...
