Russell Westbrook is Ridiculous
Published 2/25/2008 by Ryan Jones at SLAM Online
A couple months ago, I posted notes from an utterly forgettable UCLA-Western Illinois game. This was one of those justify-my-existence things: I was in L.A. for about 36 hours and wanted to see the Bruins play, and so I got a credential and took some notes. Among other things, I mentioned that the UCLA media contact had told me how badly Russell Westbrook wanted a Slam cover. I told him that was highly unlikely, but that if Russell did something really dope — like dunk all over OJ Mayo — maybe he’d get a Slamadamonth. When I met Russell after the game, I told him the same thing. I don’t believe Westbook dunked on OJ — although Josh ...

NCAA Pants Party: UCLA Vs. Mississippi Valley State [NCAA Tournament Previews]
Published 3/18/2008 by Leitch at Deadspin
UCLA Bruins (31-3) vs. Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils (17-15) When: Thursday, 9:40 p.m. Where: Anaheim UCLA BRUINS 1. "Well, Jack Likes It." Remember when Dukie V and the state of Tennessee blew their collective load when "big time celebrities" Peyton Manning and Priscila Presley showed up at the Memphis-Tennessee game? Yawn. As the greatest basketball program in NCAA history, situated in the heart of LA between Beverly Hills and Bel Air, it's commonplace for celebs to catch a game at Pauley. It's nice, but we could really care less. However, I'll gladly admit that we were a little star-struck in the Pac-10 ...

Prospect Profile - Russell Westbrook

(Photo courtesy of Mr. Irrelevant) How's that for an introduction? Certainly better than being introduced like the opposition was to Westbrook in these next 2 videos: A different way of starting these posts, I know, but when you have a picture and highlight clips that good, you have to run with it. Now, on to the crux: Relevant links with my brief commentary. Links: A Profile of "one of college basketball's budding stars" - A bif of a fluff piece from Press-Enterprise, but still interesting to read. ...

NBA Draft Profile: Russell Westbrook
Published 6/18/2008 by blackjack at The Gutty Little Bruins
Last week, I did a Draft Profile on Kevin Love for Rush the Court and here is another one on Russell Westbrook. Just by looking at these youtube videos, I can tell we’re going to miss him next year. Enjoy! Russell Westbrook could not dunk a basketball until he was 17. Yes. That Russell Westbrook. Yet, there was a time, if you can imagine, where he wasn’t always called “Russell Westbrook.” Actually, about two years ago, you were more likely to hear him called “Russell Who?” than Russell Westbrook. Or maybe you’d ...

The NBA Draft - Thoughts
Published 6/28/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Taylor) at Thoughts from the Jockstrap
Sometimes I think analyzing professional sports drafts immediately after they happen is a waste - we don't know who deserves an A+ or a D until these players have had some time in the league and we can see how they progress. That being said, I think articles and analysis immediately after the draft is fun, so here are some of my thoughts and projections. Chicago and Derrick Rose - I think Rose is a really good player and should become one of the 5 best point guards in the league pretty quickly. He is not a good outside shooter, but he can penetrate, finish with strength, and has the potential to be an elite defender. Comparing him to Chris Paul and Deron Williams ...

UCLA Is Quite Athletic

Oregon took the court wearing the latest in Nike's experimental uniforms, and for a while the shimmering black-on-black look appeared to work out for the visitors. However their second half lead was quickly erased by the Bruins up-tempo attack. Russell Westbrook appeared to tweak his ankle, but he came right back out and threw down one of the most vicious dunks of the season on some poor ...
