Bob Costas, O.J. Simpson Analyze Debut of Brett Favre as Green Bay Packers Quarterback
FanHouse —
Filed under: Packers, NFL Video, The WordThis video is just odd on so many levels: First, there's seeing O.J. Simpson as a studio analyst. Then there's Bob Costas telling the viewers at home that Brett Favre is a "second-year man from Southern Mississippi," and explaining the correct pronunciation of his last name, because viewers wouldn't have known who he was at the time -- at the time he was the Packers' backup. There's also the fact that Jim Lampley is the play-by-play man during the game, the fact that Favre has a much thicker Southern accent than ...
Presenting a Slice of History, With OJ Simpson
Insomniac's Lounge —
Over the last few months, I've been an unabashed critic of the Fanhouse's Michael David Smith, and perhaps I've been a bit unfair. Sure, he assaults his readers with a daily avalanche of filler in order to boost his post count. And yeah, I guess an honest assessment would reveal that he's devoid of anything even remotely resembling an interesting writing style. I suppose it's true that his sycophantic behavior towards anyone even peripherally related to the NFL Network or ESPN undermines his overall credibility (although he did call Sean Salisbury a big meanie earlier today). And now that you mention it, yes he does look like your stereotypical ...
Bob Costas Helps Us Pronounce Brett “F-A-V-R-E”
SPORTSbyBROOKS —
Mike Florio at PRO FOOTBALL TALK, which we probably check more on a daily basis than any other site out there, has a 1992 vid clip of “NBC LIVE!!!” It features Bob Costas, Buddy Ryan (someone check his glucose meter) and as Costas says, “as always, O.J. Simpson.”
The vid shows highlights of Brett Favre’s first major appearance with the Packers, as he led the team to a comeback win over the Bengals that day. From the postgame interview, looks like it ...
Favre’s Legacy
Goal-Line Stand —
Syndicate this site UPDATED: Free Agent Watch | Main Favre’s Legacy Posted by Brad Gagnon on March 05, 2008 It only takes minutes. Before Brett Favre had even officially announced he was leaving this game for good (we think), reporters and bloggers across the country were trying to find where number four fits among the all-time best quarterbacks. Everyone wants to take a step back and compare the stats and accomplishments of Favre to those of Marino, Montana, Elway, Unitas, Tarkenton, Young, Aikman, etc. While the retirement comes as a shock to most of us, almost to the point of raising suspicion, we have to face the hard truth that we ...
The Bengals Did Something Right. They Started Brett Favre's Career.
FanIQ Blog —
With Brett Favre now sort of officially retired (although I wouldn't be surprised if he came back next season at all) it's kind of interesting to look back on how it all started.
Ironically, Brett Favre's career began thanks to the Cincinnati Bengals. Yes, the same Bengals team that has had 11 QBs at the helm since Favre became the starter in Green Bay.
What's even funnier is that the Bengals suck so bad, they're actually taking some joy in this.
Bengals president Mike Brown summed it up on Tuesday. ...
Costas to America: It's spelled Favre, pronounced Farve
Sports stories from Newsday —
You gotta love this extensive NBC post-game report after the comeback that launched the Brett Favre epoch.
It includes Brett, naturally, plus Bob Costas explaining how Favre's name is pronounced, O.J. recalling facing Mike Holmgren in high school, Jim Lampley's play-by-play and Buddy Ryan opining against the prevent defense.
Cool.
Linkz of the Week: It's Pronounced Farve...No, Really.
BostonsportZ —
Well the Linkz have been on a bit of a hiatus lately. It's christmas time and, as we all know, if it's not one thing it's another. I'm not going to bore you with my problems, but disease didn't strike the pilgrims this hard in winter. If my house was a game of Oregon trail, my oxen would've died two weeks ago.
Onto the linkz!

Let's hope for Brian's sake it's not hereditary as Tyna Robertson, who is all kinds of crazy train, was arrested for contempt of court for failing to make any payment, at all, on the $11 million dollars she owes for ...
Why Aren’t All NFL Studio Shows This Good?
Sports Media Journal —
So, I had a pretty heated discussion with a friend a couple weeks back about NFL studio shows. Yes, I’m the kind of person that can have heated arguments about a studio show. It’s my curse. Anyway, I was doing a “links of the week” post on the other blog I write for ( shameless plug ...

The Moment the Favre Legend Began
WiscoSota Sports —
At the start of the 1992 season, after the Atlanta Falcons traded Brett Favre to the Green Bay Packers for a first round draft pick, Favre was a backup behind Don "The Majik Man" Majkowski. However, during the Packers week 3 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, "The Majik Man" went down with an injury early in the game. Favre stepped in and led the Packers to a come-from-behind victory and never looked back. ...
Top 5 Wins In Marvin Lewis's Career
WhoDeyRevolution —
Let's call it what it was...Sunday's win was gigantic. It wasn't pretty, but it gives 50,000 or so Bengals fans next Sunday a whole lot to get excited about as the Steelers roll in with about 15,000 of their faithful. In my opinion, this ranks as second biggest win in Marvin Lewis's career here in Cincinnati. Here are the top ...
