Shaquille O'Neal was all over the place during Sunday's big win over los Spurs de San Ant. Literally. Midway through the third, The Big Nimble chased down a long rebound out of bounds and to avoid two young lads in the front row, jumped right over them. Incredibly, he didn't kill anyone. I wonder what images flashed before those kids' eyes with Shaq headed straight at them? I'd guess their Pokémon or G.I. Joe collections, but I really have no idea what kids are into nowadays. There are those who complain about the the NBA in loud groans (every time I visit my girlfriend’s hometown, which is a full-fledged all-college-basketball haven, I am exposed to a few such people), and beyond all, the one complaint is hustle. “No one hustles.” “No one cares.” “Look at them out there — everybody’s loafing!” And so on.
For once, I actually find myself on the weird inverse of this argument: I’d like Shaq to stop hustling so hard. At least on the above play.
