ESPN Films has a short and undistinguished history. Maybe aside from “Playmakers,” which was bad but was about football, so OK, whatever, I’ll watch, basically everything ESPN Films has ever done has been forgettable. Can you name something? I rest my case. (Ed. note: What about Through The Fire?)
But that’s OK. I don’t go to ESPN for fictionalized narratives about sports (except when Chris Mortensen is writing; zing!). I go to ESPN for actual, real-life sports news. Well, the trailer below gives a lot of answers, the most important being "Saturday, May 16 at 7:30 pm." Looks like it'll be a fun bit of viewing. Ask Kobe's daughters, though, and they'll likely be far more excited about another TV project, namely an appearance by Kobe on Sesame Street. According to Page Six, Kobe got all big ego on Spike by “demanding creative control over the documentary and forcing the director to drive to his house to beg for a meeting to save the project.”
