Brook Lopez, Stanford Beat Marquette In Final Seconds of OT
Published 3/23/2008 at FanIQ Blog
First things first, that was complete absurd that Trent Johnson was ejected from the game. He's smarter than that to walk halfway onto the court, but that not something foreign to NCAA Tournament games. I have a hard time believing he told the referee something so egregious it deserved the final technical. That's an embarrassment to the college basketball officiating trade. I said this morning that the game would be decided by whether the Cardinal frontcourt outplayed the Golden Eagles backcourt. Based on the efforts put forth, it's hard to accurately determine who ...

Really A Way You Don’t Want To Lose
Published 3/23/2008 by Dave at Sports Blog - football, basketball, and baseball
This game saved my bracket, so I’m glad it happened, but jeez: Watching this guy chuck it up at the end, I’m still wondering how the ball went in.

Michelle Wie Has Questionable Tastes
Published 4/1/2008 by Avinash at Bears Necessity
Let’s see, Michelle Wie is dating a famous Stanford basketball twin. Now, will she choose the dude who shot the gamewinner to beat Marquette, or the crazed maniac who looks like a cross between Anderson Varejao and Joakim Noah? Well… Robin is dating Stanford’s current most famous female coed, golf phenom Michelle Wie, although both have tried to keep things as quiet as possible. Figures that a ‘Furd phenom who has yet to win a golf tournament would pick the wrong Lopez twin. Oh well, gives hope for the rest of us ...

Player Highlights, pt. 1

It looks like everybody thinks that Brook Lopez is going to land in the Wolves' lap.  I, for one, don't think this will end up being the case.  The Wolves will end up with OJ Mayo or Danilo Gallinari if they keep the pick or they will trade ...

Stanford Coach Trent Johnson Tossed Late in First Half Against Marquette

Stanford's head coach Trent Johnson was ejected with 3:36 remaining in the first half of their NCAA tournament second round game against Marquette. Johnson was disputing a foul call called on the Cardinal's Lawrence Hill when he picked up the first technical. Then, during the ensuing television timeout, he walked halfway out on the court and was given his second tech and an automatic ...

The Sweet 16 awaits

Marquette aims to a return to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2003 when the Golden Eagles (25-9) take on the Stanford Cardinal (27-7) this afternoon in Anaheim. After an impressive win against Kentucky, the task grows taller for Marquette this afternoon. The Cardinal are led by the seven-foot twins, Brook and Robin Lopez. Brook Lopez, a sure-fire NBA lottery pick, leads the team with 18 ...

Marquette Fans Have Found Me
I think I’m going to go ahead and post my first retraction on this little site of mine. A few days ago, I put up this video of Wesley Matthews seemingly giving the finger to some fans in the stands during the Stanford-Marquette game. Many people have e-mailed me (some who claim to have been there) to tell me I’m wrong, just all wrong about the whole thing. I’ll eat the ...
Stanford-Marquette Video Highlights
Sorry for the bad editing on the first vide o ... RedLasso was being kooky. Anyway, we've got Wesley Matthews showing the Stanford fans his true feelings on their support of the Cardinal in the midst of a first-half Golden Eagles run. (About seven seconds in.) The second video is just Bilas and Enberg giving us their best baseball analysis, which is exactly what I’m looking for this ...

Texas and Stanford, two of the top seeds in the South Region, hook up at Reliant Stadium Friday in what could be the third round's best matchup. Does Trent Johnson have a temper problem, an image problem, both or neither?
Much as he wants it to be a non-story — and he really, really really wants it to be a non-story — Trent Johnson’s ejection from the Marquette game has not faded into the background. A coach getting tossed from an NCAA tournament game happens so rarely, and it feels so un-Stanford,... Continue reading...
Sweet 16 Preview: South Region
In the second most chalky region, Memphis has a tough road to get to the final four. Texas -2 vs. Stanford: Texas was my final four pick, and I'm sticking with them, even though I'm a little nervous for this Stanford game and the Lopez twins. Stanford showed they can handle a guard-oriented team in beating Marquette last round, and at the same time showed they are vulnerable to that type ...
We're on to you, Brook Lopez...
Watching Saturday's Stanford-Marquette game, the dominance in the second half by Stanford center Brook Lopez was obvious. The announcers continually pointed out that the Marquette defense was lining up on Lopez's high side leaving him free to drop step his way to an easy layup - which he did numerous times. I watched as he willed in a shot with under five seconds to play to give his ...
Stanford, Poor Haircut, Advances To Sweet 16
An NCAA tournament game featuring a pair of twin sophomores (both seven feet tall), a head coach getting ejected in the first half, and one player on each team going for 30 points doesn’t need to go to overtime to be one of the most interesting games of the tournament. But it helps. (more…) Share This
2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament: Stanford 82, Marquette 81
Stanford's twin towers make Marquette see red. The first game of the day at the Honda Center was a South Regional contest: #3 Stanford Cardinal versus #6 Marquette Golden Eagles. As both teams walked onto the court, it was even obvious to those of us up in the Terrace section that Stanford was the bigger team, especially their seven-foot twin towers, Brooke and Robin Lopez. The auditorium ...
Stanford 82, Marquette 81: Did you see the Lopez twins’ faces in the last moments? That was special
We’re all going to remember a lot of things about the game I can’t believe I just saw: Stanford 82-81 over Marquette. -Trent Johnson’s ejection, of course. -Brook Lopez’s baseline game-winner as he reached from behind the backboard back towards the rim. -Maybe Mitch... Continue reading...
Lopez Twins Save Trent Johnson, Push Stanford into Sweet Sixteen
Trent Johnson's questionable ejection from today's Stanford/Marquette game could have sunk Stanford's season, but the team's two best players simply wouldn't allow it to happen. The Brothers Lopez combined for 48 of Stanford's 82 points in their overtime win over Marquette, including Brook Lopez 's difficult leaner with 1.3 seconds left that gave the Cardinal the win. Referee Curtis Shaw's ...
Lopez Pushes Stanford Past Marquette In O/T 82-81
Stanford forward Brook Lopez scored 30 points, including the game winning bucket with 1.8 seconds in overtime to put the Cardinal into the “Sweet Sixteen” as they defeated Marquette in a heart stopping game 82-81. Stanford head coach Trent Johnson was not on the floor to celebrate with his team, as he was ejected during the game’s first half for unsportsmanlike conduct. ...
Refs’ statement on Trent Johnson’s ejection

Trent Johnson self-combusts: The referees did him no favors, but this was bad
Was Trent Johnson itching for an ejection or was he just instantaneously outraged? Hard to tell. Night Game Live Blog [Wazzu!]
All these games are overlapping and I can hardly keep up. Marquette and Stanford have already reached halftime which should give the Cardinal players a chance to catch up with their ejected coach. Marquette leads 36-30 with Brook Lopez scoring just two points and making everybody vaguely uncomfortable. Meanwhile, Wazzu is unloading on Notre Dame, which is completely crushing my Big East over ...
Pre-game Stanford vs. Marquette: Guards, guards.
Big contrast in the tone of the two teams’ early warm-ups just now, as they sort of glanced at each other on either side of the floor.
