Richie Sexson: ‘Gutless .200-Hitting Joke’
Larry Brown Sports —
Though the game featured two teams well below .500, the Thursday night matchup between Texas and Seattle had no shortage of entertainment. Felix Hernandez had already hit two Rangers in the game, including catcher Gerald Laird, so Richie Sexson came up to the plate in the 4th anticipating he would be thrown at. After shaking off Laird twice, Kason Gabbard finally semi-succumbed to Laird’s request by throwing high — not inside — on Sexson. An entertaining fight broke out, and to completely enjoy it, make sure your volume is turned up (a full transcription is after the jump in case you can’t listen). Filed under: Dallas, Seattle, Mariners, Rangers, AL West, MLB VideoLet's set the scene for those who don't stay up all hours watching west coast baseball: Felix Hernandez comes inside and plunks Ian Kinsler on the shoulder in the fourth inning of the Rangers' tilt with the Mariners. This came after Kinsler took King Felix deep in the second inning, so of course, tensions are going to be a little high after that. Bottom of the frame, Kason Gabbard takes the mound for the Rangers and retires the first two hitters he faces. Then he throws a pitch eye-high, but not so tight at Richie ...

Throw the ball at Richie Sexson, He’ll throw his helmet back at you
Hail Mary Jane —
During the fourth inning of last nights Mariners/Rangers game, Richie Sexson took offense to a pitch by the Rangers Kason Gabbard. Gabbard threw a high and tight pitch at Sexson, very high and very tight. It just barely missed his face.
Thats nothing new in baseball but Richie Sexson is 6′8 so if your trying to hit him, theres a lot to go for besides his head. Sexson didn’t like the pitch too much and rushed the mound, throwing his helmet at Gabbard in the process…. ...
Rangers’ Announcer Tom Grieve Doesn't Seem To Like Richie Sexson
AwfulAnnouncing —
Bugs and Cranks has video of the Rangers and Mariners playing the feud last night, and announcer Tom Grieve doesn't seem to respect Richie Sexson decision to charge the mound.... In fairness to Sexson, the Mariners' Felix Hernandez had hit two batters in the previous inning and he was charging on anything close. I've also never seen a helmet throw land like that. Fun times. Update: Here is the full thing, and as right as the Rangers announcers are about the situation....they do go a little overboard with the Sexson ...
If You Like Richie Sexson Bashing ...

From the Rangers broadcasters (paraphrasing): "If they want to hit someone, they would hit a good hitter - not Sexson, who couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat." "Gutless 6-foot-7, .200 hitting formerly good player." "If you want to fight, fight. But throw a helmet at a guy?" Video via Awful Announcing.
