Epiphany: This Tiger Woods Fellow is Clutch
The Big Lead —
The ethereal swing, the effervescent fist pump, the toothy and cocksure grin; that Tiger Woods guy is something else. For Rocco Mediate’s exceptional effort at the US Open - golf needs more of this chatty chap, no? - he gets to play 1 on 1 against the G.O.A.T. today beginning at 12. If you couldn’t call in sick for work today, fear not - Cousins of Ron Mexico will live-blog the 18 holes starting around noon. We can say with some authority that Tiger’s stats - historical dominance at Torrey Pines, 10-1 all-time in playoffs, and two playoff victories in majors - auger victory.
Also, we could ...
A Look Back At Greatness
Intentional Foul —
The word “tiger” inspires many different thoughts; normally, ones related to fear and self preservation. The dictionary defines the word as, “a large, carnivorous, tawny-colored and black-striped feline, Panthera tigris, of Asia, ranging in several races from India and the Malay Peninsula to Siberia: the entire species is endangered, with some races thought to be extinct.”
Funny, that same description could be used to define a certain golfer who shares the name with the species the definition’s is discussing. His name, is of course, Eldrick “Tiger” Woods and boy, if there was ever a ...
I always wanted to say this. "Fo Shizzle."
Da Great White Hype —
First off... how can one guy go from not walking 18 holes since two months ago to winning the United States National Championship? In what figured to be a colossal letdown from the previous day, it took an extra 19 holes for the U.S. Open to be decided. I try to keep this site free from over-analyzation (I leave for you to go to SI.com or ESPN for that). This has to be one of the most poignant moments of Tiger's professional life, besides when he finally overcame his racial confusion. So all I really wonder is how the lower-ranked players seem to be the ones who can hang with tiger (Rocco, DiMarco, Bob May back in '01 at the PGA, ...
Golf's Finest Hour
Rumors and Rants —
Mark Twain once referred to golf as a good walk spoiled. But poor Mark didn't have access to titanium woods with graphite shafts, golf courses with lawnmowers, or yesterday's magical playoff between Rocco Mediate and Tiger Woods for the 108th U.S. Open Championship. Pretty much every superlative has been used in the past 24 hours to describe the event. Mike Downey of the Chicago Tribune made the predictable comparison to Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed in the original Rocky (I only say it's predictable because that was my original idea for this post yesterday). It is an apt allusion -- as some people don't remember, ...

Tiger Woods’ 2008 US Open Performance
Obsessed With Sports —
tiger us open putt Torrey Pines last year gave us one of the truly fantastic images that will forever be etched in my brain (pictured above). It is akin to Muhammad Ali standing over Sonny Liston. It is similar to Gibson’s home run. It is no less amazing that Bobby Orr soaring through the air after his most famous goal. It has now been 1 year since Tiger’s incredible come from behind victory at the 2008 US Open. Some people have called this Tiger’s greatest triumph to date. Although I can’t say I am qualified to deem that statement true or not; his performance last year holds a special place for me. This was the performance that made me realize how ...

Let’s face it: Tom Watson’s loss in the British Open Sunday was the big story.
Bigger than Stewart Cink’s victory and bigger than Tiger’s absence altogether. One eight-foot putt away from golf’s oldest trophy on the 18th hole at Turnberry, and the 59-year-old Watson couldn’t come through. It may be harsh to call it a choke, but Cink merely had to play the next four playoff holes (two pars and two birdies) as Watson ran out of steam with a two bogies, a par and a double bogey.
In the end, Watson’s unlikely weekend atop the leaderboard among players who were barely born when he beat Jack ...

Tiger fans, enjoy. 1. 2005 Masters, 16th hole. We called this the best shot of the decade a week ago, and our opinion hasn't changed. Check it:
