The Sugar Pants Effect
Published 6/26/2008 by Metstradamus (noreply@blogger.com) at The Musings and Prophecies of Metstradamus
They say that if you kill a butterfly, it can alter the fate of the world. They also say that if you give David Wright a day off after a game changing error, it can set off a chain of alternate events that include Wright hitting two home runs in one game, Vladimir Guerrero catching a cold, Todd Jones impersonating Magglio Ordonez, and Shawn Chacon choke-slamming his general manager (although I must admit there was a time that an urge to choke slam Ed Wade seemed perfectly legitimate to me.) But the most alternate event is a Mets victory against the last place Seattle Mariners. Yes! The Mets didn't get swept by the ...
Todd Jones Impersonates Magglio Ordonez in Rain Delay
Published 6/26/2008 by Larry Brown at Larry Brown Sports
Rain delays are always good for fun times in baseball. Over the weekend, it was Jonathan Papelbon and Manny Delcarmen doing a Milli Villi music video that brought entertainment to Fenway Park. Before that, it was the Texas Rangers using the tarp at Shea Stadium as a slip and slide. But of all the fun had during rain delays, this might be my favorite. Check out Todd Jones doing his Magglio Ordonez impersonation for the ‘06 ALCS home run that sent the Tigers to the World Series. It’s awesome:

Todd Jones Is a Rain Delay Ar-teeeeest
Published 6/26/2008 by Will Brinson at FanHouse
Filed under: Detroit, Tigers, MLB Fans, MLB VideoThe upside of doing a Magglio Ordonez impersonation is that it's relatively easy; you just need long, curly black hair and a Detroit Tigers uniform to pull it off and anyone that watches much baseball is going to know what you're doing. The downside is, who has time these days to stand around in a Tigers uniform and make semi-mock Mags? That would be our good friend Todd Jones, who took advantage of the recent rain delay at Comerica to do his best 2006 ALCS-winning home run impersonation of Ordonez. Okay, ...
Todd Jones Impersonating Magglio Ordonez Is All You Need For Rain Delay Entertainment
Published 6/26/2008 at FanIQ Blog
When Todd Jones made his way through the National League from 2003-2006 (Rockies, Reds, Phillies, Marlins) it was mandatory that we get to the Wrigley Bleacher early to partake in his shenanigans. There may be a reason he's not an elite closer, besides being out of shape and having an average arm.
Jones spends more time goofing off with fans then he does warming up. I imagine this drives Tigers fans batty most of the time, but Wednesday night his jestering came in handy during a 2 1/2 hour rain delay at the top of the fifth inning.
The Tigers closer donned a Magglio Ordonez wig (does he keep this ...

I'm not a Todd Jones fan, but hey, if he can pull stuff like this out, forget being a closer, hire him to be PAWS the Mascot. H/T: {Ballhype}

Todd Jones wants to be Magglio Ordonez
Published 6/26/2008 by houroc at SportFiends
Here is a video of the Tigers Todd Jones impersonating Magglio Ordonez‘ walk off home run in 2006. This happened during a rain delay in the Tigers game and it was a pretty good impersonation, too bad the Tigers won’t be going back to the playoffs this year.

Magglio Jones? Todd Ordonez? Ah, who can tell?!?!

... included.
Jones picked up a bat and strolled onto the tarp. Then, after
mimicking Ordonez's pre-at-bat routine, he sent an imaginary pitch over
the wall, jogging the bases in a similar style to Ordonez's trot after
his game-winning home run during Game 4 of the 2006 ALCS.
Jones stuck one arm in the air as he ran to first and later slapped
the hand of an imaginary third base coach -- all to the delight of
several thousand drenched fans. Watch the video here, while it's hot.
Friday fun: Video time, baseball style

Somewhere, Magglio is laughing (we hope) but Goose is stewing over today's ballplayers ("I can't stand that - the dancing, the laughing - there's no place for that in the game"):
Let's hear it for Todd Jones!
Flashback Friday: Rick Dempsey's Rainy Days
Published 6/27/2008 by Matthew Taylor (noreply@blogger.com) at Roar from 34 - A Baltimore Orioles Blog
Jones' antics in Detroit bring back memories of "Baseball Soliloquy in Pantomime" by Matthew Taylor Thanks to the Tigers' Todd Jones, shown in the rain delay video above, this week's Flashback Friday could only be about one thing: Rick Dempsey's "Baseball Soliloquy in Pantomime." Daniel Okrent describes Dempsey's efforts: He was an intense man, who concentrated mightily on the game. For relief from baseball pressures, he would take it upon himself to be the club entertainer. The son of two former vaudevillians, he had a knack for performance, and was particularly renowned for his 'Baseball Soliloquy in Pantomime.' It was a comic turn he'd occasionally perform during ...
