THIS WENT WELL

Glasgow Rangers lost to some other soccer team in the UEFA final, but these Rangers fans aren't upset about the loss.  A giant public TV screen in Manchester showing the game stopped working mid-match, spurring fans -- some of whom had been drinking for 18 hours -- to do their best Pamplona impression.  The Daily Mail has tons of great pictures like police dogs biting fans.  There was also this: A lone police officer was tripped up and stamped on as he faced up to a baying mob of hundreds of Rangers fans, video footage showed today... He is punched ...

Broken TV Sparks Riot at UEFA Cup Final
Published 5/15/2008 by David J. Warner at FanHouse
Filed under: Soccer, Soccer Posts What do you get when you combine Scottish soccer fans, a large amount of alcohol and a large TV screen in a public area that goes dead right in the middle of an international final? Unfortunately, as the above CCTV video shows, you get a riot. Glasgow Rangers fans clashed with police in Manchester last night after a screen in Piccadilly Gardens went black during the UEFA Cup final between Rangers and Zenit St. Petersburg at City of Manchester Stadium. One Russian fan was stabbed in the melee, which has led many to ...

Glasgow Rangers Fans Riot
Published 5/15/2008 at FanIQ Blog
Sometimes it's tough on down days, when not a lot is going on. But that's why soccer riots exist. They help fill the void when nothing else is going on. And yesterday oh boy was there ever one hell of a soccer riot. Except it was slightly different than what you'd expect. The Glasgow Rangers were playing in the UEFA Cup Final (which is like the poor man's Champion's League) and a bunch of drunken revelers came to watch them play on a giant TV screen set up in Manchester. Which is always a great idea. Get a bunch of drunken hooligans all together in one central location. Naturally the TV cut out half way through the ...

European Cup Parade Off Following Rangers Riot
Published 5/16/2008 by Scott the Red at Republik Of Mancunia
Yesterday, I wrote of my immense frustration upon hearing that plans to show United’s European Cup final on the big screens had been cancelled, following the scenes of violence involving Rangers fans. The Scottish fans travelled to Manchester to watch their UEFA Cup Final which was being held at the Council House. After a technical hitch with the screen in Piccadilly Gardens, the Rangers fans kicked off. News has emerged today putting doubt over whether United will be able to parade the European Cup through the streets of Manchester, if we win it. ...

Manchester Residents Know How to Prepare for a Big Match
Published 5/17/2008 by Alejandro de los Rios at Dejuiced! Sports News with No Boundaries
I’m sure most of you out there know that there’s a big soccer match coming up on Wednesday between Manchester United and Chelsea. It should be a thrilling event (I for one look forward to getting plastered in an Irish bar at 2 in the afternoon) and the people of Manchester are ...

Manchester Soccer Hooligan Riots
Published 5/18/2008 by Brinson at Brahsome - Care To Get Nice?
Via Observation Bubble, we originally thought this was the reaction to Brahsome turning one year old. It was not. The younger Brinson informs me this was the worst soccer related violence in 25 years. Those cops didn’t have a chance. Fucking nutjobs. Share This
