Pierce is the Hero as Celtics Take Game One
LOY's PLACE a celtics green blog —
This game was a battle from the beginning. The first quarter was rather tentative by both teams as they were trying to get a feel for each others' games. At the end of the first quarter, the Celtics held a 23-21 lead with the Celtics shooting 47% and the Lakers shooting 48%. Kobe was 2-8 in the first quarter and the ...

Oh My God! He Can Walk! He Can Walk Again! It's A Miracle!
I think we're getting just a little carried away with the heroism today after Paul Pierce went from being carried off the floor to hitting threes all within the third quarter.
You see this happen a lot in sports - guys who are unaccustomed to being injury feel a slight pain in their knee, their knee which affords them great wealth, and they initially catastrophize the perceived severe injury. Minutes later, after doc says it's ok, they sprint off the field or court after the worry is gone.
What made this different was that Pierce ...
Celtics/Lakers: Paul Pierce has a game 1 for the ages
Hail Mary Jane —
During these playoffs, Paul Pierce has been cementing his place as an all time Celtic great and a lock to have his number retired.
First, there was the game 7 against the Cavs where he lifted his team to a win with 41 points going toe to toe with one of the games best in LeBron James.
Then there was last nights game 1 in the NBA Finals where he had a Willis Reed type moment that Celtics fans will tell their kids about (if they win the series).
It all started in third quarter when Pierce went down with a knee injury. The ...
Milk it
Randball —
Nobody really knows how badly Paul Pierce initially felt after colliding with Kendrick Perkins last night, except for Pierce, perhaps a few teammates, and that guy who tried to block the camera from following the dramatic wheelchair ride by putting up a hand to cover about 1/50th of the screen. (I can’t see Paul Pierce’s ear! What’s going on! Second favorite part, by the way: Perkins going for treatment later. Hey guys, I’m hurt, too! Guys! Guys?) We’re sure Pierce was hurt. What we’re not sure of is whether, at some point while he was down, Pierce decided to raise the ante and milk it to make it bigger ...

About Paul Pierce’s Knee
Intentional Foul —
It’s come to my attention, courtesy of TBL, that some folks think Paul Pierce’s knee injury was some kind of dodge or hustle to either ignite the crowd or to fool the Lakers into thinking — well, I’m not really sure. Perhaps the implication is being made that if the Lakers saw an injured Pierce, maybe they’d think the series was in-hand, only to see those hopes squashed when he came back to the game.
To say that idea is a little bit of a reach is an understatement; however, before I get into that, take a look at the video of the incident, courtesy of Odenzied (who ...
The Internets are alive: How hurt was Paul Pierce?
Ball Don't Lie —
There's mixed reaction to Paul Pierce's knee injury and return. (Check the video.) Was the Celtics forward legitimately hurt on the play, or did he exaggerate the moment? What they're saying out in the ether about the the Truth's comeback ... The Association: "In my book when you knock knees with someone you stop for a second, rub it and get back in the game. In Paul Pierce's book, you drop to the floor, do a Nancy Kerrigan impression, get carried off in the Dwyane Wade Memorial Wheelchair, sit in the locker room for the next five minutes, return to give the extremely gullible media a Willis ...
Hockey players see Paul Pierce, and LAUGH
The Wayne Fontes Experience - A Detroit Lions Blog —
In the aftermath of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals, it's beginning to leak out just how badly injured some of the Red Wings players were. According to the News' John Niyo, there were many Wings dealing with severe injuries... Injuries? Yeah, they had a few. More than a few, actually. Talked to a champagne-soaked trainer, Piet van Zant, in the Zamboni entrance a couple hours ago and his initial response was, "Everybody was playing through something." But then he rattled off the abridged version: Tomas Holmstrom was playing with a sports hernia (for a long time) and a torn hamstring. Valtteri Filppula wasn't practicing ...
Paul Pierce to Wear New 'Number' Tonight*
The Sporting Blog —
There are players on the Italian soccer squad who could rightfully mock the toughness, or lack thereof, of Paul Pierce after his dramatic performance in Game 1 . As you may recall, Pierce injured his knee so horribly that he had to be carried off the court, wheelchaired to the locker room, only to return and hit like a dozen three pointers. Now, to celebrate such grand theater, the folks at MixMakers got a hold of this new, limited edition Pierce jersery: *Obviously, Pierce is not actually going to be wearing this jersey. I can't believe I had to point that out, but we still don't have that "sarcasm" tag around here.
That's one way to start your preseason off with a bang

Editor's Note: Make sure you check out Truth's update on Haywood's wrist which was inadvertently shoved down the page by me posting two minutes after he did. -Jake
So...going into our first pre-season game we already knew that we would be without our best scorer until at least December, but probably longer. A tough pill to swallow, but one that we've swallowed before and managed to be okay with.
Then we get the news right before the start of tonight's game that Brendan Haywood, who originally looked like he would be out for a week, now might be out for 4-6 months. Awesome. Just what we needed ...
