As well all know by now, Barry Melrose left his job as hockey analyst at ESPN to become head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning this season. Like any good employer, ESPN threw a going away shin dig for Melrose at The Greatest Bar in Boston. Was there a vote? Are they allowed to call themselves that? After Tampa Bay Rays ace Scott Kazmir screwed the pooch against the Red Sox last night, St. Pete Times columnist Gary Shelton joked that the team would have been better off leaving in Barry Melrose, who tossed out the ceremonial first pitch, as the starting pitcher. If you are an NHL fan who has been trapped in an ice cave for the last few months, don’t worry nothing has changed. While you were gone Barry Melrose, the face of the NHL on ESPN, was hired to coach the Tampa Bay Lightning. A couple days into the season, Melrose has been fired by the Lightning.
