AMP Energy NHL Commercial: Ryan Miller Defeats J.S. Aubin in "Yo' Mamma!" Bout
FanIQ Blog — The NHL's idea to air an outdoor nationally televised game was brilliant -- more on that later -- but AMP Energy's commercial featuring Ryan Miller and J.S. Aubin was even better. "Yo mamma is so ugly, they renamed Halloween Yomammaween."

Amp Energy Drinks Make You Piss Intensity
Barry Melrose Rocks — WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MAN I JUST HAD SOME OF THAT AMP ENERGY STUFF THAT I SAW ON THE TV YESTERDAY. ITS FREAKING INTENSE!!!!! SEE THAT? I USED A TON OF EXCLAMATION POINTS TO SHOW HOW INTENSE I AM!!! AH I DID IT AGAIN!! YOU KNOW HOW GOOD I FEEL RIGHT NOW? I FEEL LIKE I COULD EAT A RAM. NOT LIKE A SHEEP. LIKE ONE OF THOSE RAMS THAT YOU ALWAYS SEE BUTTING HEADS IN THE ALPS. THERE'S SO MUCH CAFFEINE IN THIS THING I FEEL LIKE I COULD SCALE THE ALPS AND WRESTLE DOWN A WHOLE PACK OF RAMS WHILE PLAYING SNOOD ON MY BLACKBERRY. AND THEN I WOULD CLIMB DOWN, WALK A MILLION MILES, SWIM ACROSS THE OCEAN, WALK SOME MORE AND BEAT UP SLY STALLONE. NOT THE OLD ...

Winter Classic: The only loser was the Sabres
3rd Man In — Holy hell. There I go disappearing again. I feel compelled to make a post with all of the buzz surrounding yesterday’s Winter Classic (totally sponsored by AMP!!!!). Looking back at it, the NHL really couldn’t of asked for any more. They probably asked for exactly what they got. Their golden boy, Sidney Crosby (who I hear is pretty good at this hockey thing) potted the winner in the shootout. Not many of the 71,000-plus spectators in attendance left before the end of the game, and with the endlessly picturesque snowfall, provided an awesome scene for television. While it would be easy to complain about the NHL pushing Crosby down the throats ...

20-17-4: Canuckleheads Top Aenimic Rangers
Scotty Hockey — I had really wanted to go out to Vancouver for tonight's game against the Canucks but extraordinary prices for airfare kept me watching the game on my couch. And its good, because I would have been really disappointed by the 3-0 result if I had spent over a grand to fly out there. Some of the things I saw from my living room: ...

Aubin commercial
Inside the Kings — Here's what he had to say about the experience: ``My agent called and asked if I wanted to do a commercial and I said, `Why not?’ I had never done one before. It was a lot of fun. I got in there and saw all the extras and I wasn’t sure I could do it. But then you do the takes over and over and, after a while, you don’t even remember all the people there.’’ He said it took nine hours to shoot the 30-second spot. Personally, my favorite is, ``Yo' momma so ugly, they renamed Halloween Yomommaween.'' If you haven't seen it, here it is ...

Ryan Miller Amp Commercial
Off Wing Opinion — Ryan Miller Amp Commercial This is the Amp Energy Commercial featuring goalies Ryan Miller of the Sabres and Jean-Sebastien Aubin of the Kings. It was shown during the Winter Classic game on New Years. It is an amusing take on the subject of goalie reaction time, and is nicely done. Kudos to Amp for making a quality hockey commercial. It would be nice to see it on the major networks though. Trackback Pings TrackBack URL for this entry: http://www.ericmcerlain.com/mt/mt-tb.cgi/8138 Comments Post a comment

End to End Hockey Podcast - Season 2 Episode 17
The End To End Hockey Podcast — In this week's episode, we cover an article that I read on the Hockey News about the allstar selection process from the point of view of a four year old (article available here), thoughts on the Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators, as well as celebrating NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman's 15th anniversary on the job. Download the show: Due to technical difficulties, I won't be able to put up a link to stream the show. I'm working on it. Here are the two youtube clips I was talking about: Take 'er ...

How to win friends and influence people Buffalo style, Avery-Bernier trade rejected at deadline, Sharks OT shootout win over Minnesota...
Sharkspage San Jose Sharks NHL hockey and local sports blog — - San Jose's trade dealine acquisition of offensive defenseman Brian Campbell from the Buffalo Sabres for a late 2008 first round draft pick and right wing Steve Bernier addressed longstanding issues for each team. Unfortunately post-trade comments reported by the Buffalo media irritated many fans in San Jose. ...

The Pensblog - A Pittsburgh Penguin Site Managed By A Bunch Of Jokes That Can Barely Run Their Own Lives — The ice-hockey goaltender. If he doesn't have a short memory, your team is done. He sits at the other end of the ice after giving up a cheap goal... And that goal is the only thing he's thinking about. He keeps reliving it in his head. Separating The Champions From The Choke-Jobs [NHL Closer]
Deadspin — The NHL Closer is written by Greg Wyshynski, of FanHouse and The Fourth Period. He is also the author of Glow Pucks And 10-Cent Beer. I realize that Buffalo accepts crushing disappointment as a societal norm, like paralyzing snowfall totals and permanent wing sauce stains. But last night's third-period collapse against Ottawa -- a 6-3 "definition of a joke" whose box score will be etched on the Sabres' tombstone for the '07-08 season -- made Syracuse's choke in the NIT against UMass seem like a quaint, acceptable folly by comparison. Buffalo's wasn't the only choke-job last night, but the Sabres were the ...

3 Cheers for Alex Auld
American Hockey Fan — Last night, the Boston Bruins celebrated clinching a playoff spot for the first time since the lockout, and wrap up the season tonight against the Buffalo Sabres, who will be celebrating, well, Yo-mamma-ween. Many people counted the Bruins out this season, (although I wasn't among them) but while tremendous credit will be given where it's due (The superb Bruin coaching staff, the emergence of rookie talent, the ability to battle through injuries, Tim Thomas stepping up to the plate, career year in goals for Chara etc) I'd like to give a tip of the hat to a man who will likely be making his last start of the year tonight, backup goaltender Alex ...

May 18th vs. The Mets
WasWatching.com — The most games that the Yankees have been over .500 this year, so far, is two. And, the last time they were two games over .500 was April 23rd. Tomorrow is an off-day. And, the team is now 4 games under .500. It could be June before we see the Yankees be two games over .500 again. This was only the 5th time in Worm Killer Wang’s career that he’s allowed 7+ earned runs in a game. Two of the other four times were also in May: May 10th last year and May 22nd the year before that one. Strange, huh? But, even with Wang having a bad day, it didn’t matter - as the Yankees bats were…well…did you see ...

Ryan Miller: Clearly unaware he's destined to be a Red Wing
Puck Daddy — You know, this five-year contract extension for Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller is really going to make his predestined move between the pipes for the Detroit Red Wings next summer quite difficult. I'm not quite sure I'm ready to live in a world bereft of constant chatter about Miller going to Detroit and Vinny Lecavalier centering for the Canadiens. It almost seems ... unnatural. TSN has the deal at five years for $31.25 million, which is less than what Henrik Lundqvist makes but more than the majority of his Eastern Conference peers pull in. More importantly, it gives the ...

2008-09 NHL Draft Kit: Goalie Rankings
RotoRob — Like an unstoppable force of nature, the 2008-09 RotoRob NHL Draft Kit contines unabated. Today, Mike regales us with his picks for the top fantasy netminders this season. Judging goaltending is a tricky task because so much of what makes a great fantasy goalie depends on a league’s specific statistics. For example, if you’re going solely by wins, you’ll be looking at sure things with starts and a strong team in front of the netminder. However, if you get individual points for each save, a goalie who gets bombarded is a smart pick rather than pure number of wins. That being said, the following list ...

Buffalo Sabres: Pros and Cons for ASD Adoption

Puck Daddy chats with Ryan Miller for some Winter Classic advice
Puck Daddy — Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller played his part in the historic Winter Classic at Ralph Wilson Stadium earlier this year, becoming both the first NHL goalie to lose in an outdoor shootout (to Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins, no less) and the first keeper to utter the words "Yo-mama-ween" in a nationally televised commercial. But in the history of Ryan Miller, the Winter Classic was just another hockey game he's played in an open-air stadium; previously competing in front of 75,000 fans in 2001, as his Michigan State Spartans faced arch rival Michigan on a breezy October day. ...

Pre-Cap: Capitals vs. Buffalo
Capitals Kremlin — This is what Jesus wears on game nights in heaven. All joking aside, how great would it be if someone showed up in a Red Jesus sweater. Hey, it's not like someone hasn't already shown up in a Brett Leonhardt sweater. Tonight, the Capitals face the Buffalo Sabres, who are probably still a little sour about the last meeting between these two. While the game was never out of reach for the Sabres, the slugs never controlled play. When it looked as if they might begin to take control, Alex Ovechkin went "super sonic" and unleashed a fury of his own. Red Jesus and his acolytes are back on the road for a quick stop in ...

John Gonzalez of The Inquirer doesn't like hockey, therefore nobody else does either
Broad Street Hockey — It's safe to say that John Gonzalez, writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer, is not a hockey fan. And because he is not a lover of all things puck, he apparently believes that nobody else is, either. In a column in Tuesday's paper, Mr. Gonzalez takes a few cheap shots at the NHL by saying that, among other things, the league should stop national broadcasts because nobody in America cares, and that if every team in America besides the Flyers moved to Canada, Philadelphians wouldn't notice. [Hockey has] become a niche sport, a regionalized pastime with devoted fans who love the home team but not necessarily the international product. ...

Ryan Miller believes technology has made us lazy, nonverbal
Puck Daddy — We'll excuse the irony of Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller ranting about the lethargic evils of modern digital communication on his blog, because what else was he supposed to do: Call us all individually? Here's Ryan Miller, wondering what happened to people just, like, talking to each other: I was wondering recently how Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and all the other stalker enabling websites have taken over the world (I'm being facetious... I know how much people love their websites but admit it, you find yourself creeping through profiles). I understand how it can be addicting ...

Preview: Introducing the 2009-10 Buffalo Sabres!
Puck Daddy — NHL season previews often sell you an impressive bill of goods before you realize, at the end of the season, you're holding an empty box. Which makes using advertisements and infomercials the appropriate template for Puck Daddy's 2009-10 NHL Season Previews, presented each day throughout September. Last Season's Ad Copy: Tenth in the Eastern Conference, third in the Northeast Division (41-32-9, 91 points). There were two numbers that added up to the Buffalo Sabres' failures last season: 48 and 56. Forty-eight, as in the number of games that fragile force to be reckoned with Tim ...

Wrapping Up The Winter Classic
takingonefortheteam.blogspot.com 1/2/2008 — Looking back on the Winter Classic outdoor game in Buffalo. Was this New Year's Day experiment a success for the NHL? Did NBC do the event justice? Did the weather ruin everything? Here are some observations and reactions to the entire spectacle that was the Winter Classic.
Winter Classic indeed classic - draws 2.4 overnight rating on NBCBleacher Report
Just saw this via KuklasKorner on Globe & Mail : NBC exceeded audience expectations for its coverage of the Buffalo outdoor game on New Year's Day by earning a 2.4 overnight rating (percentage of the potential U.S. audience tuned in). A Great Day of HockeyPuckhead's Thoughts
I came from a football family. New Year's Day was always about the bowl games around my house growing up as a kid. But this past holiday was a day of hockey bliss. Sure we still forced ourselves to get up and watch the Rose Bowl Parade from Pasadena, but then it was all NHL for 2008. We staggered out of bed around 10 in the morning to catch some of the flower laden floats from California

Winter Classic updateSportsfrog.com
In the face of Al Gore's warming warnings , it looks like the weather in Buffalo this week and leading into the New Year's Day outdoor game will be cold enough to sustain an outdoor ice rink. But the NHL isn't out of the woods with this thing yet. For one, there's a good chance it will rain / snow on the day of the game. That should be fun to watch. Maybe Phil Dawson can come in and help ...
