r9ronaldo Argh! the video is gone! quick, find another! :( -
MVNsoccer This is a replacement clip ( should hold, but it's different commentators than my description ) - same live video feed.
The BBC commentary clips were probably ALL removed from YouTube. YouTube seems to be anxious to remove official Premiership clips in general, and I bet it's the Premer League's idea of copyright protection

Ben Q. Rock If that kick is supposed to be amazing, I don't feel bad at all for never watching soccer. -
MVNsoccer Ben Q. If you have no knowledge or appreciation of the skill and level of excellence of what he did there, then why publicize it via a comment ? ...the feat is getting glowing press all around the world now including by fans in America, and there are millions of die-hard Man Utd and Ronny fans here ( as I siad up top, I am an Arsenal fan, though... )
Let people who know soccer enjoy the moment.
I put it up to hopefully educate others ( ie. non-fans ), too.
( can't please everyone, I know ... )

Because Ballhype is all about discussing sports...? I merely stated I don't see what's remarkable about what he did there. He kicked the ball and it went in. Isn't that the point of soccer? How was what he did any more difficult than any other soccer goal?

r9ronaldo Sorry Ben Q but you really are showing that you don't understand the game at all.
Firstly there is the problem of clearing the wall, most will try to curve it around the wall but that kick was taken so as to go straight over the wall and quickly dip down into the goal. The difficulty in supplying that sort of dip to a ball is something you may never comprehend.
Then there's the fact that he hit it with so much pace, it's not that the ball fell towards the ground but it was the spin on the ball that did it. Finally it was perfectly positioned into the top corner. No keeper could have that kick covered.
I find C. Ronaldo a bit too arrogant sometimes but I have to pay that as one of the best free kicks I've ever seen. I guess you may never understand that which is a shame but oh well.

I never claimed to. I've tried to watch soccer before, and it bored me. I clicked on this clip hoping to enlighten myself, to see what I had been missing, and I was disappointed. Now that you've explained why the goal was so difficult, I have a better appreciation for it.

r9ronaldo That's fair enough, I've found myself bored many a time watching some games. It's not always exciting but some games are just amazing, when you have end to end attacking football it's great stuff. Maybe just stick to the highlights and compilations if the interest ever manifests itself again!

MVNsoccer Ben,
The technical difficulty is what made this great. He overcame every obstacle, and with perfection.
I'm glad you have a better appreciation of the expertise.
Here we have a situation similar to Shaun White's Gold Medal run on this weekend, however. A simple, yet extraordinary clip showing a spectacular atheletic feat WITH TWO DOWN VOTES...
It's not an opinion piece; it's an amazing sporting event video that has no reason for ayone to be voting it down...

The best free-kick ever scored in the Premier League?
Published 1/31/2008 by Ronaldo Assis de Moreira at 101 Great Goals - latest football videos and international soccer goals from the Premier League, Champions League,La liga, Serie A, World Cup, UEFA Cup and more
“No goalkeeper in the world would have stopped it. It was without doubt the best free-kick I’ve seen in the Premier League.” – Alex Ferguson.
Who are we to disagree with Sir Alex, Cristiano Ronaldo’s free kick last night was exceptional, but these 16 Premier League free-kicks were also pretty good:
Eric Cantona (v Arsenal, 1993)
Matt Le Tissier (v Wimbledon, 1994)
David Beckham (v Manchester City, 2000)
John Arne Riise (v Manchester United, 2001)
Christian Ziege (v Arsenal, 2002)
Gianfranco Zola (v Tottenham, 2003)
Thierry Henry ...
Cristiano Ronaldo's Amazing Free Kick Against Portsmouth
Published 1/31/2008 at FanIQ Blog
It's been too long since we've had a good soccer highlight on this here blog. I figured this one was more than worthy, considering the man himself, Cristiano Ronaldo, called it his best goal ever.
"That was probably my best-ever goal," said the Portuguese winger.
I'm not the football aficionado I'd like to be, but I'd certainly put this into the upper echelon of goals I've ever seen. Sublime.

Big Weekend Preview
Published 2/1/2008 by Manuel Francisco dos Santos at 101 Great Goals - latest football videos and international soccer goals from the Premier League, Champions League,La liga, Serie A, World Cup, UEFA Cup and more
It could be a defining weekend in the Premier League as all three of the title hopefuls face difficult away trips on Saturday. In Germany the Bundesliga resumes after a ridiculously long winter break, while in Holland there’s a tasty Amsterdam – Rotterdam clash which will certainly keep the capital’s rather relaxed police-force on their toes.
Here’s the list of games to be keeping an eye on.
Tottenham v Manchester United
It’s a big test this weekend for the reigning champions as they travel to face a Spurs side rich in confidence and swelling with new talent. Spurs caused United several problems when the sides met last ...

There's a great story behind this; and after last night he's reeeeally drawing comparisons with George Best as the article says here,
http://ballhype.com/story/match_recap_manchester_united_v_portsmouth/
( I'm a Gooner all the way, but I appreciate his skill as evidenced here... the Best comparisons aren't going away anytime soon, so he might as well get used to them ! )
