El AC Milán se consolidó en el primer lugar de su grupo al vencer 1 - 0 al Celtic en un partido en el que los italianos no jugaron bien, pero que les sirve para viajar con un colchón de seguridad al Mundial de Clubes. Inzaghi fue el anotador del gol y de paso se convirtió en el máximo goleador en competiciones europeas de clubes.
Otro detalle del partido fue la emotiva celebración que el público le dedicó a Kaká por haber obtenido el Balón de Oro, distinción al mejor futbolista que otorga la revista France Football.
