Rich Chvotkin Believes Wallace Got Fouled
Published 2/15/2008 by Dan Steinberg at D.C. Sports Bog
Rich Chvotkin Believes Wallace Got Fouled Rich Chvotkin's 17-note "Hoyas Win" blast from last year's win over Vanderbilt was no doubt magisterial, and yet "Hoyas Win" has become fairly well expected by this point. Monday's last-second win over Villanova, though, offered something a bit different. You might need to watch this more than once to get accustomed to the split-screen view and thus to truly enjoy the first 30 seconds. You could close your eyes and just let the words wash over you. Or, like me, you could watch it 10 times. Many thanks to Chvotkin's helper for setting up the video camera at the crucial point, and for syncing up the ...

Chvotkin on Villanova
Published 2/15/2008 by CO_Hoya at Hoya Prospectus
Evan Chvotkin sent along a link to a YouTube clip of Dr. Rich calling the end of the Villanova game, side by side with the ESPN video. I think you'll see Evan's hand make a couple of cameo appearances.

Not Sure, But Wallace May Have Been Fouled
Published 2/15/2008 at The Sporting Blog
By Chris Mottram You may recall the Villanova-Georgetown game Monday night in which the referee completely ruined an otherwise classic (note: overstatement) Big East contest by calling a foul with 0.1 seconds left, about 200 yards from the basket. We all felt cheated. It sucked. What a horrible way to end a game, right? Rich Chvotkin, who calls the Hoyas' games old-school radio style, probably didn't feel that way: Sean McDonough, on the other hand, was not as pleased with the call. Rich Chvotkin's Rather Homerish Call of Georgetown-Villanova
Published 2/15/2008 at FanIQ Blog
As enthusiastic sports fans, we've all got a little homer in us. That's natural. We believe our team is going to win the majority of their games and we generally view all our players with a glass half full mentality (unless they go hitless in the playoffs). Then there's that group of fans who are unabashed in their irrational, drank all the Kool-Aid and more, disgusting homerism. You know who they are. Their teams NEVER commit fouls, only lose because of bad luck, and aren't willing to admit when superstars have blatantly cheated the game. Take a listen (and watch) to Rich Chvotkin's call of ...

Rich Chvotkin Believe Wallace Got Fouled

Once you can get past the split screen setup of the video this call by Georgetown's radio announcer Rich Chvotkin is hilarious. Via DC Sports Bog.... That's just about as homerific as you can get. Rich Chvotkin Believes Wallace Got Fouled (DC Sports Bog) (FYI- I'm heading out of town this afternoon, so there's not going to be any AA until later tonight. Just keep watching this video over and over again.)

I believe he needs a sedative! I believe he needs a sedative!
Published 2/15/2008 at The Dagger
This is radio play-by-play man Rich Chvotkin calling the last few seconds of the miscarriage of justice that was the Georgetown/Villanova game. In case the video leaves it unclear, Chvotkin is the Hoyas play-by-play guy, not 'Nova's. With big thanks to the always-wonderful DC Sports Bog: I'm sorry, sir, what was that you were saying about someone getting fouled? Would you mind repeating that? Hysterical. I've never heard Mr. Chvotkin call a game myself, but he sounds like one of those guys who local fans positively adore, and ...

Bad Seat: Behind Georgetown Hoops Announcer
Published 2/15/2008 by Brooks at SPORTSbyBROOKS
Dan Steinberg of DC SPORTS BOG has an audio-video sync’d up look at Georgetown radio announcer Rich Chvotkin as he straps on the pom-poms in a Hoya victory over Villanova. You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video Some of you may know that we were a longtime radio PBP guy for baseball, hockey and basketball, so seeing an announcer so blatantly cheer for the team he broadcasts pains us. But since virtually every play-by-play man in the business is now nothing more than a bought-off mouthpiece for the ...

Yes, But Do You Believe He Get Fouled?
Published 2/15/2008 by Josh Alper at FanHouse
Filed under: Georgetown Basketball, Big East Basketball, NCAA Basketball Video, Washington, DC FanHouse's Charles Rich did not believe Jonathan Wallace got fouled. A fair reading of the play, to be sure, but Chas was certainly less passionate than Hoya radio announcer Rich Chvotkin. Is he a homer? Absolutely. Is it a debatable call? You bet your booties. Does any of that make it a less enjoyable call? Nope. (H/T D.C. Sports Bog)   Permalink | Email ...

Quick hits for your afternoon enjoyment

The six worst haircuts in the NBA? Le Basketbawl has them . Georgetown announcer Rich Chvotkin, maybe, just maybe, believes Hoyas guard Jonathan Wallace was fouled . The idea of Bob Knight returning to Indiana has been broached . What about Isiah Thomas taking the Hoosiers job ? John Daly saw Willie Nelson in concert. A L.A. Times writer wonders if Daly is living a country song . High school wrestler Dustin Carter's arms were amputated elbow down and his legs amputated from just above the knee down due to a rare blood infection. He is 32-1 this season and ranked No. 9 in Ohio's 103-pound weight class.

The Week In Chaos, February 19: Aggies Commit Voter Fraud, Hoyas Channel Tim Donaghy, Duke Appeases Nation

The Week In Chaos examines all of the absurd things that happened to Top 25 (AP Poll only, coaches don't know anything) teams in the previous week of college hoops. With this season being The Year Of Mediocrity, consider this a chronicling of all this misdeeds these supposedly high-caliber teams are guilty of. If this season is to be forgotten due to a lack of greatness, I feel it should be remembered for its abundance of greatlessness. See, I'm being positive! This is part 1 of this week's edition with part 2 coming tomorrow. Why am I dividing one post into two parts? Because ...

Stars - Buyers, Sellers, Neither?
Published 2/20/2008 by Sturminator at Bob's Blog - Live from Lewisville
I may need to reevaluate my thinking about the NHL’s Pacific Division. Going in to 2007-08, after a painfully quiet summer in which the Stars made a bold strike for (gulp) Brad Winchester and (double gulp) Todd Fedoruk, I surmised that the Stars were playing for 3rd place in the Pacific, and likely either the final playoff spot or something real close (#6 or #7 seed?). ...

Wizards’ Play-By-Play Caller Is An Excitable Fellow
Published 2/26/2008 by jason at SPORTSbyBROOKS
Steve Buckhantz is an excitable guy. The Washington Wizards play-by-play man made another thrilling call that’s sure to be shown on SportsCenter highlights for hours to come. During Monday night’s Wizard-Hornets game, Hilton Armstrong had just tied the game for New Orleans with 7.3 seconds remaining. With no time outs left, DeShawn Stevenson raced down the length of the court and tossed up the game-winning 3: Or as Buckhantz bellowed - “DAGGER!!!“ But it’s not the first time Steve had such a screaming fit at the final buzzer. Back in March, the Raptors rattled in an improbable game-tying 3, causing Buckhantz to explode with, “NOOOOO! NOT ...
