NBA to institute fines for flopping
NBA Noise —
As much as the game is entertainment, these days some players are making there money from some incredible acting skills. I'm not talking about Shaq in Kazaam, or even Dennis Rodman in that Jean Claude Van Dam movie (what the hell was that called again?). I'm referring to the Manu Ginobilis and Vlade Divacs of the world. The segment of players who are considered to be "floppers" - wildly flailing at the slightest touch as if a major assault were just laid upon their face. Although the specific amounts have yet to be disclosed, the NBA will start instituting fines for players "flopping". Stu Jackson, the NBA executive vice ...
Thankfully, Flopping in the NBA Will Be Ending
Sports of Boston —
(This is the first of a multi-part series as part of Sports of Boston’s coverage of the NBA Finals)
Last week, when it was announced that the NBA would begin fining players for flopping, I came quite close to clapping about the story when I first saw it. One of the reasons the NBA has become pretty unwatchable, to me, is the fake theatrics of the game. When it’s a game, it should be about performing well, not acting.
In baseball and football, it is rare that someone acting like they were wronged affects the whole game, and more rare that it occurs more than once a game. Yet, in basketball, guys have been ...

John Schuhmann of NBA.com reports that Michael Redd and Team USA are now in Macao, preparing for their remaining exhibition games before the Olympic schedule kicks off on August 10. Their next game will be on Thursday at 7 am central, when they take on Ersan Ilyasova and the Turkish national team. And while Team USA is taking their job seriously, there's still some room for fun:
As the players were shooting around before practice began, Dwight Howard asked a courtside observer, "If I start shooting like Michael Redd, will I start making my jump shots?" Howard then proceeded to do a perfect imitation of ...
Vlade Divac: The Art of Flopping
Basketbawful —
This video was created for the Humanitarian Organization Divac Web site. It stars NBA analysts, commisioners, coaches, and players both past and present, all praising Vlade for his floptastic greatness. With videographic examples and a jaunty tune, no less. I'm telling you, if this video gave soothing foot rubs, I'd marry it.

Can't Stop The Bleeding —
Video link swiped from Basketbawful. The clip is funny enough as is, but keep in mind this might be the very last time you’ll see former Net Jayson Williams used in such a comedic setting.

Vlade Divac, Undisputed King of Flopping

Filed under: NBA Videos The best part? Even David Stern agrees! Kudos to Basketbawful (via Sactown Royalty) for finding this gem, which was produced for Vlade's Humanitarian Organization Divac, a worthy organization that provides resources for refugees. Лидер, ама и Флопер
NBA Macedonia —

Vlade Takes His Flip-Flopping To Politics
Lion in Oil —
We all remember Vlade Divac. The man who might be best remembered for being traded for Kobe Bryant on Draft Night in 1996 if not for his flopping skills has made the most of his retirement. He created the Humanitarian Organization Divac, helping displaced Serbian refugees across Europe. Now Vlade is taking on government. Or more like joining it. He's accepted an invitation to become an advisor to the Serbian government and Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dačić. Vlade will be focusing on two major areas in Serbia: humanitarian issues and sports. And he's qualified for ...
What is a "flop"?
Mad Dog Blog —
There is a term in the National Basketball
Association that some more casual fans do not know. The term is "flop" and some
NBA players have perfected the skill into an art form. Some of the old battles
between two great players (Shaq and Vlade Divac) included some pretty convincing flops
by Vlade.
Now, the first time I ...
"Smoking, Drinking and Flopping"
ESPN.com - TrueHoop —
From the archives, a nice little tribute to Vlade Divac. They ask Del Harris if he taught Vlade Divac how to flop. He cracks up. "Did I teach Vlade Divac how to flop? Are you kidding me? He came over here and taught the whole NBA how to flop."
NBA changes rule on traveling to exactly what it was before.

Gee, thanks for clearing that up guys. I was really confused. This handy video tells me nothing.
I've got some other ambiguous "unwritten rules" you might want to make written while you're at it.
How about you clear up the whole charge vs. blocking fiasco. Is he right? or is he just dead wrong?
Do the rules even exist in the final minute?
Also, exactly which words, phrases or gestures will get you a technical foul? Does it have to involve a ref?
I won't even get started on the different between a flagrant ...
