The Drake And WKU Save The Tourney's Opening Round
Published 3/21/2008 by Awful Announcing- at Awful Announcing
Man I was dragging until this overtime game between the Hilltoppers and the Bulldogs. WKU was up big in the 2nd half before an awesome run in regulation by Drake that included an amazing dunk and about fourteen 3-pointers. The end of Overtime included an idiotic foul by WKU with the game tied and 30 seconds left, but it worked out for them somehow.... While this game did destroy my bracket (well it sort of already was) it restored my faith in the Tournament's Opening Round. Great Basketball today and bravo WKU. Also, Tim ...

By Chris Mottram Forget the brackets, your office pool, or the fact that you had Drake in the Sweet Sixteen. This is why we watch and love the Tournament. And this is why it's referred to as "Madness": Spencer, as you know if you've been reading TSB at all, was in a sportsbook in Vegas for this incredible moment. From Spencer: There are challenges to covering the sportsbooks in Vegas, mind you. (No seriously, there are.) Western Kentucky’s Buzzer Shot Beats the Drake for the Tourney’s First Great Upset

Best finish of the tournament so far, hands down. Thought the Davidson-Gonzaga game was better, and the second day has been tremendous so far. If you’re judging the announcing call … we’ll go with a six. The Drake And WKU Save The Tourney’s Opening Round (Awful Announcing)

UNBELIEVABLE

I don't know what else you might have been doing on Good Friday besides skipping out of work early to watch the NCAA tourney, but if you did anything but that, it sucks to be you, because the Drake-Western Kentucky game was unbelievably excellent.  WKU was comfortably in charge the entire game before Drake charged back with a 29-14 run to end regulation and send the game into overtime.  Then, with both teams battling back and forth in OT, we got the ending you see above. Ladies and gentlemen, the defining image from the first round of the tournament.  Pretty fucking ...

Western Kentucky wins! And the guy who hit the winner …

is former Indiana star Tom Coverdale!!! Wait, how did he go from here … To Bowling Green, Kentucky? Craaaaaaaazy. Actually, it was Ty Rogers of lovely Eddyville, Kentucky (home of a state prison! Yay!). Here’s the video. Thanks to Awful Announcing for getting this up so damn fast. ...

U Gone, UConn - SD Slides Into Cinderella Slipper
Published 3/21/2008 by jason at SPORTSbyBROOKS
Finally, a Cinderella story to make this year’s March Madness a little more compelling. Thanks, Toreros! #14 San Diego was able to upend #3 UConn in a 70-69 OT thriller on Friday, giving Huskies coach Jim Calhoun his first-ever first round loss in 15 appearances - and no dobut causing Pepto-Bismol markups at the Storrs Walgreen’s. True, Western Kentucky dramatically defeated Drake (too bad Gus Johnson wasn’t calling the game), and Davidson dumped Gonzaga in the day’s other lower-seed upsets so far. But those were mid-majors beating other mid-majors; USD KO’ed a BCS school. Best of all, this now sets up a 2nd-round match-up between the ...

Hooray For Links! NCAA Tournament Edition
Published 3/24/2008 by jtom at Super, Scintillating and Sarcastic
I was never a big proponent of doing link dumps and the like on this site because, well, it didn't really make sense to me. Why would I simply reproduce things that are already out there? But as I did my own scouring of the Intertubes for college hoops content, I realized there was just too much quality (and, at times, utterly awful) stuff out there to simply leave untapped. So I give you Hooray For Links! which should appear at completely random intervals. Because without links, it's not really a blog, it's just a place to put thoughts I might not want to ...

Bob Mould, Bagels, Hot Sex, Western Kentucky And Other Passionate Pinnacles Of The Human Experience [Balls Deep]

This is BALLS DEEP With Big Daddy Drew (Balls® is a registered trademark and has been used with the expressed written consent of AJ Daulerio). It's gonna be like an SI Point After column, only with dick jokes. Enjoy. This is Bob Mould, former member of Husker Du, former member of Sugar, current solo artist, and my favorite musician in the universe. Bob has a new album out, which is pretty good. He's also on tour with a full band, including former Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty. They played the 9:30 Club last week here in DC, but I wasn't able to go. I deeply regret this, because the seven or eight times I've seen Bob play live, something very ...

NCAA Night Games, Day II
Though the late afternoon games were largely boring - well, except for Connecticut losing its point guard and best player, AJ Price, to a knee injury, and then the game in overtime to San Diego - we’re still on a bit of a high from Stephen Curry’s 40-point explosion and Ty Rogers’ buzzer-beating three-pointer that took Western Kentucky over Drake earlier in the day.
