Ryan Howard exhibits fielding prowess on flying beer can
Big League Stew —
Tally 3 points for Ryan Howard as he deftly nabs this flying can of Budweiser during the Phillies parade last Friday. However, deduct 2 for not immediately slamming it like this guy. (Here's another angle of Howard's grab. Whoever said he wasn't a Gold Glover?)
Ryan Howard can catch a beer can
Home Run Derby —
Philadelphia Phillies 1st baseman Ryan Howard is known more for his bat than his glove.
Consider that in 2008, Howard led the Major Leagues in Home Runs (48) and RBI (146) while he finished last in Fielding Percentage among First Basemen (.988 with 19 Errors).
But that Fielding Percetage would be a lot higher if baseballwas played with a beer can instead of a ball ….
During the Phillies World Series Championship parade, Howard showed that he can catch … a can of beer. Watch the video …

Ryan Howard Can't Field Baseballs, But He Can Sure Snag Flying Beer Cans
AwfulAnnouncing —
There are a handful of World Series vids floating around these interwebs, but none more awesome than this one that I found over at HR Derby. A fan was filming the parade when a random beer can comes flying at one of the floats carrying a handful of Phillies and more specifically, Ryan Howard. Watch closely as the first baseman backhands the thing at the last second.... Wow! That's talent right there. He couldn't seem to field simple ground balls in the Playoffs this year, but his hand are like glue for Budweiser cans. Hey, everyone has their ...
Ryan Howard’s Hands Ain’t Totally Awful
The Slanch Report —
Ryan Howard receives much criticism around these parts for his stone hands and lack of deft agility around the first base bag, and rightly so. He’s a butcher over there. But the folks over at Big League Stew via Home Run Derby came up with this clip that shows that he can catch the things that matter. Like a tossed beer can from the crowd ...
Ryan Howard To Nab Endorsements, Beer Cans
SPORTSbyBROOKS —
Had to post this video which was originally unearthed by Kevin Kaduk at BIG LEAGUE STEW:
Along with beer cans, Greg Johnson of the LOS ANGELES TIMES blogs that Howard will be the Phillies player to most benefit biz-wise from the World Series win:
The NL MVP in 2006, he delivers awesome slugging power at the plate, and impressive selling power on camera. Still under 30, his endorsement resume includes national TV spots for Subway, Powerade and adidas, plus cover-boy roles for Topps baseball cards and Sony’s MLB ’08 The Show videogame. Articulate, charismatic ...
When It Comes to Catching Beers, No One Tops Ryan Howard
Hail Mary Jane —
When it comes to fielding, Ryan Howard is questionable at best. He would've never made to the majors if he couldn't hit fastballs from Philly to Trenton.
During the Phillies World Series celebration though he showed that he has some gold glove potential, but not on the baseball diamond, at the bar.
Check out his catlike reflexes when he catches this beer.
