Winter Classic 2009 Commercial
Sean Leahy's Going Five Hole —
This commercial debuted last night during NBC's Sunday Night Football broadcast as as Wyshynski put it this morning , the NHL got it right. We've gone from weird, samurai sword-wielding, semi-sexual commercials out of the lockout to, in my opinion, two of the best spots the league has produced. The other being the outstanding and spine-tingling " Cup Raise ". Whether or not the NHL has new people in their marketing department or they finally realized how to sell the game, I'm looking forward to other spots we'll see in the future. Ballhype: hype it up! Take Me Out To The...Outdoor Hockey Game
The Power Play —
The NHL has just released this commercial to promote the upcoming Winter Classic. In fact, you might have already seen it as it started airing during Sunday night football on NBC. Hey, isn't that the same network that will carry the Winter Classic? Those sneaky devils! The spot is pretty entertaining as it features some of the stars of the Blackhawks and Red Wings getting set to go out on the ice just before the Winter Classic begins. Which leads me to believe that the NHL marketing department has developed some sort of time machine and travelled to the future to record this. While the ...
The Morning Skate: An All-Star Alternative
Slap Shot —
Do you have All-Star fever? Watching those updated fan balloting results in real time? Caught up in the imbroglio surrounding Montrealers stuffing the electronic ballot box ? Gripped by the Eric Duhatscheck-Ted Leonsis exchange on the controversy? Wake us when it’s over. Meanwhile, in today’s La Presse, Mathias Brunet has his own version of All-Star teams. He’s named one team for each conference comprised of the biggest surprises so far this season and another pair of teams made up of disappointing players. Here is the Eastern Conference Surprise Team: Goal: Alex Auld, Ottawa. Defense: Luke Schenn, Toronto; Filip Kuba, Ottawa. Center: ...
Avs Survive in 6-5 win @ Minnesota
The Avslova Factor —
Peter Budaj was terrible and the penalty killing was atrocious but the Avs offense gave Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom a new career high for goals against and managed to skate out of Minnesota with a 6-5 regulation victory. With Joe Sakic on the IR, the young players on this team will need to step up in the coming weeks. They certainly did last night. After falling behind 1-0, the Avs came storming back with two straight goals from Marek Svatos and David Jones. Jones has been much better in the past few games and finally appears to be playing the physical game he needs to play in order to be ...

Winter Classic II commercial taps into Harry Carey and Wrigley Field nostalgia to promote outdoor game between Detroit and Chicago
Sharkspage San Jose Sharks NHL hockey and local sports blog —
This excellent commercial by the NHL captures some of the timeless appeal of Wrigley Field and late broadcaster Harry Carey and uses that to help promote the upcoming January 1st Winter Classic II game between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks. It is the second commercial in a row that really connects with the foundation of the sport, following the Cup Raise slideshow used at the start of the 2007-08 NHL playoffs.

The NHL has some cool commercials
Broad And Pattison —
I’ve seen some really funny commercials from around the league lately, and I decided to put them all in one place. I’m not doing this to share them with you, but basically so I have a place to easily watch them all when I want a good laugh or a nice chill up the spine. But I guess you all can enjoy them too.
The first is a Winter Classic commercial, first seen 9 days ago during NBC’s Sunday Night Football. As a baseball fan, I think it’s an absolutely brilliant commercial that brings together the nostalgia of Wrigley Field and the awesomeness of the fact that a hockey game will be played there January 1. ...
Are you excited for the imminent debut of MLB Network?
Big League Stew —
As the WoWies noted this morning, the new MLB Network website just went live and we're only 15 days away from the actual channel making its way into 50 million homes for the biggest launch in cable history. Let the mad hype begin! The network will make its debut on Jan. 1 when it airs rarely-seen footage from Don Larsen's perfect game in the World Series. Since I'll be freezing at Wrigley Field while watching the good ol' hockey game, that'll definitely become a DVR denizen until I can watch it. As for the rest of the offseason lineup, there are a few other programs that seem worth of your hard drive space, including ...

2009 NHL Winter Classic Videos! Outdoor Hockey is Awesome!
NESW Sports, Sports Videos —
NHL Winter Classic Videos! Outdoor Hockey is Awesome! The NHL needs to do this more often. They need to play in retractable domes or something. I always think of Mystery Alaska when we have the winter classic. I grew up in the South, but I can appreciate sports played where they should be. God didn’t make no indoor lakes. So the way I’m thinkin is that we should play Hockey outdoors. Blackhawks vs Red Wings. Detroit wins 6-4, but the real story was the game itself.
