sports.aol.com 6/16/2008 — Tiger Woods ' 18th hole at Torrey Pines was nothing short of a roller coaster ride. It was both exasperating, heart wrenching and thrilling to watch as a television spectator, so I can't imagine having to be Rocco Mediate . First, his tee shot, ...

US Open: It’s Playoff Time
intentionalfoul.com 6/16/2008 —

90 Holes? Not Enough
realclearsports.com 6/16/2008 —
Rocco had a chance on 18 to win the 2008 U.S. Open, and his first ever major, but his birdie-putt never really had a chance.
The two came to 18, just as they did yesterday, with Rocco leading by one after he went birdie-birdie-birdie-par-par-par over the final six holes.
Tiger was, well, Tiger, sinking a putt to birdie 18 and force even more golf: we're now in a sudden-death playoff, ...

Tiger Woods Nearly Broke the Interwebs During the U.S. Open Playoff
sports.aol.com 6/19/2008 — I know a reasonable amount about the internet, because I [insert lame mom's basement joke here]. But I don't wholly get the macrocosmic technical aspect of what Al Gore created; I just know it's really big and it runs all of our lives. So I'm pretty ...

When Tiger Woods is involved, even mid-afternoon on a Monday can seem like prime time.
NBC drew a 7.6/20 overnight rating for the Tiger Woods/Rocco Mediate U.S. Open playoff yesterday afternoon, up 90% from the 4.0/12 for the last playoff in 2001, which featured Retlief Goosen and Mark Brooks.
The 7.6 overnight is extremely impressive considering NBC began coverage at 2:00 PM ET on a weekday.
Bronx Banter: Man or Machine? —
Baseball Toaster
People say Tiger Woods is ungodly. I'd say his performance is often flat-out godly. During yesterday's dramatic playoff at the U.S. Open, one of the TV commentators said that Tiger isn't used to chasing someone this late in a Major. The pressure is on Tiger, he said. A friend, who is an avid golf fan, turned to me and said, The pressure is always on the other guy because Tiger is relentless.
Tiger does it…. —
The Sommer Frieze
What a U.S. Open. Tiger birdies the last hole in regulation to force the playoff. He birdied the last hole of the 18-hole playoff to force sudden death. He wins on the 19th hole of the day. 91 holes on a surgically repaired knee in his first tournament in two months. He wins his 14th major. Wow.
Also a big Wow to Rocco Mediate. This is one where you hated to see either lose.
Somehow I ...

AwfulAnnouncing
Ninety one holes....91! I questioned the 18-hole Playoff before the start today to myself, and more often than not this format probably end in a blowout, but today and the whole five-day period completed arguably the best rounds of Golf I've ever seen. The ride of Tiger Woods' Round yesterday and the drama of the Playoff today was simply amazing and Golf has never captivated me in this way ...
After 18 Holes, It's Now Sudden Death At The U.S. Open [U.S. Open Playoff] —
Deadspin
"You are watching one of the greatest U.S. Open championships in history..." In an interview before the final round, Rocco told NBC Sports that he would probably "just quit" if he won the U.S. Open. It's his favorite championship, but one that hasn't been too kind to him in the past. In fact, no majors have been kind to Rocco . And Tiger, who was supposedly unbeatable when he had the lead ...

Through five rounds of the U.S. Open, Woods and Mediate are all tied up, and they're now heading into a sudden-death playoff. Rocco Mediate somehow managed to overcome a seemingly impossible three-stroke deficit on Tiger. Then it was two. Then it was one. Then... it was tied . On 15, Rocco turned up the pressure hitting a third birdie putt in a row that pretty much turned everyone in the gallery on his side. Tiger boots his birdie putt. After 15 holes, Rocco Mediate has a one stroke lead on Tiger Woods. Dan ...

Rocco Promises Not To ‘Bother’ Tiger During Playoff —
SPORTSbyBROOKS
I’m watching the Rocco-Tiger match on ESPN, and thoroughly enjoyed the interview (take two!) with a Starbucks-sucking Mediate before the two teed off: “ I’m not going to bother anybody, if he (Tiger) doesn’t want to talk, we won’t. ”
“ I won’t bother anybody “? Like Rocco is intruding Tiger’s precious processional?
My money is ...
