Today the Boston Red Sox will host the Tampa Bay Rays who are fresh off a benches clearing brawl yesterday. If you haven’t seen what happened yet, you can click here. Bartolo Colon will make his Red Sox debut today. Unfortunately, the only way to hear about how he did will be through the various forms of media that are in Ft. Myers as there is no television or radio coverage of the game this afternoon.
Gordon Edes has a great story about Sean Casey and how the nickname of “The Mayor” came about as well as how he established ties to the Boston area long before signing here in the offseason.

“Dirty” Yankees and “You Know” Tally for Jonny Gomes
Published 3/13/2008 by Jodie at Gossip On Sports - The Latest Dish On and Off the Field
You know us. Whenever there’s a story that even remotely casts the New York Yankees in a bad light, we’re all over it like the fawning media and post-Super Bowl Eli Manning.
That being said, we feel compelled to post this follow-up on yesterday’s Yanks-Rays brawl.
Seems Tampa Bay GM Joe Maddon thinks those Damn Yankees are also Dirty Yankees:
“What you saw today was the definition of a dirty play. There’s no room for that in our game. It’s contemptible. It’s wrong. It’s borderline criminal. I can’t believe ...
Head Down, Cleats Up

We just read this story about the Yankees-Rays spring training brawl, which highlights the fact that Yankee Shelley Duncan claims his slide, shown in the clip below, was a not dirty a play. Duncan stated, “I saw it a couple times. I still don’t understand why they were as upset as they were.” You can decide for yourself if there was a reason to be upset. But, after a little more digging, we found something in Duncan’s past that might shed some light on his comments about the slide.Turns out, Duncan was a boxing judge in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. He was one of the judges who voted in favor of Park Si-Hun, a 3-2 decision in favor of the South ...
The Idiot File: Shelley Duncan; Really, Who Do You Think You're Fooling...
Published 3/13/2008 by Maryland Orioles' Fan at Oriole Post - Baltimore Orioles Analysis & News; The World of Baseball and Beyond
I've not done this in a while, but welcome to the list Shelley Duncan. I'm wondering if you're high, or are trying to look cool for your teammates - either way, it's not working. Shelley Duncan gives his thoughts on what happened yesterday - was he involved in the game we were watching? ESPN: Shelley Duncan watched video of his hard slide in the Yankees' game Wednesday against Tampa Bay and still doesn't think it was a dirty play. The New York first baseman's slide into second base with his spikes raised sparked a bench-clearing scrum that resulted in two players and two coaches being ejected during the second inning of ...
Bud Busts Reggie

Via George King -
Major League Baseball has ordered Reggie Jackson out of uniform for the remainder of spring training games after the Hall of Famer was on the field during this past Wednesday's altercation.
Jackson, who was on the field dressed in gray baseball pants, windbreaker and Yankees hat, was fined $250 by MLB. Jackson, a special advisor during the season, also doubles as a spring training instructor.
"I am going to call Bud (Selig) today," said Jackson, who explained he was on the field in the role of a peacemaker. "I called him (Saturday) and left a message. I was trying to make peace. I didn't ...

If you're new here and love baseball, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed or you can Bookmark us. Thanks for visiting! Past Week in Baseball - March 16th 2008 PWIB! Get it… Yeah, I know its awful. Anyways here’s the Past Week in Baseball for March 16th 2008. This week: baseball’s best tools, a season ending injury, China broadcast thoughts and more. Jays Middle Releiver Casey Janssen is shut down for the season Casey pitched in 70 games last season, although I’d have to venture he was warming up in at least an additional 20+ games. Almost every time I’d watch a game it seemed like he was getting ready in the pen. A converted starter, Casey ...
It's Sox-Yankees, St. Patty's Day style
Published 3/17/2008 by Dan Lamothe, Red Sox Monster at Red Sox Monster - MassLive.com
Top o' the Mornin' to ye! It's obviously St. Patrick's Day today, giving us all an excuse to find green beer most ricky-ticky. This year, though, St. Patrick's Day also means something else: the Red Sox and Yankees meet today at 1:15 p.m., although it's a game that apparently means little in Terry Francona's eyes ...
